MISSISSAUGA ARTS COUNCIL: LOCAL ARTISTS ROCKED INTO NEW YEAR AT LIMELIGHT BLOCK PARTY

Limelight New Year's Eve Block
PartyMISSISSAUGA, ON – Local artists from the Mississauga Arts Council’s Limelight Association of Young Artists rang in the New Year at an event to be remembered at MAC’s Limelight Block Party at Mississauga Celebration Square! The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) was thrilled to present the Limelight Block Party in collaboration with the City of Mississauga on December 31st, 2012. Leading artists from the Mississauga Arts Council’s Limelight Association of Young Artists thrilled audiences as they performed at the free event featuring an Open Mic, interactive art project and live drumming on the main stage, dance performances and more!

Kicking-off the event was Mississauga’s hottest Indie Band, Vibonics who hosted MAC’s Open Mic in the C Café. Hundreds of music lovers gathered in the café to enjoy performances by celebrated Spoken-word poet Matt Miller, as well as numerous talented local artists. During the evening, professional visual artist, Ylana Luigi lead a collaborative graffiti mural project commemorating the event. Over 40 individuals took a paintbrush and joined in the fun at this interactive program. The beautiful completed mural will proudly be displayed at City Hall.

On the main stage, thousands of Mississaugans danced to the beat of global rhythms and grooves as celebrated percussionist Sheldon DeSouza performed with his drum and dance collective. Following this heart-pumping performance, Mississauga’s favourite Hip-Hop group, I Rock With THE ONE dazzled the audience with their slick breakdance complete with original choreography, flips and more! An estimated 30,000 Mississaugans enjoyed the evening grooving to a video skate party featuring the best jams of 2012, indulging in delicious treats from gourmet food trucks and counting down to midnight with live performances from electro-pop fueled sensation LIGHTS and Nightbox.

The Mississauga Arts Council wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to the Limelight Block Party event sponsors including RockPro Music Centre, C Café and DeSerres. The event would not be possible without the support of such generous sponsors. MAC would also like to thank the numerous volunteers and artists who donated their time and energy to make the event possible.
