TOP CANADIAN BRAND S2013: Tim Hortons tops list of Canadian brands

If there were any doubt the Tim Hortons brand ranks high among Canadians, a recent survey shows the iconic fast-food chain tops all other household names.
Tim Hortons, known for its "double double" coffee, bite-sized doughnuts and Roll Up The rim To Win contest, topped the list of Canadian corporate brands such as Canadian Tire, Shoppers Drug Mart and WestJet.
Globally, Tim Hortons ranked tenth behind brands such as Google and Walt Disney, but was ahead of big names like Apple, Amazon and Honda, according to a Canadian Business magazine special report on the survey by advisory firm Reputation Institute, which was released mid-April.
The coffee chain was rated on seven categories, scoring especially high in the area of "citizenship" or its strong ties to community given its track record for supporting good causes and protecting the environment. Think Timbits hockey, children's foundation and camps.
Other categories included governance, product and services, workplace, innovation, leadership and performance.
Few brands invoke such an emotional brand than Tim Hortons. Canadian author Pierre Berton is quoted as once writing: "In so many ways the story of Tim Hortons is the essential Canadian story. It is a story of success and tragedy, of big dreams and small towns, of old-fashioned values and tough-fisted business, of hard work and of hockey."
The Canadian findings are part of Reputation Institute's global poll, which included 55,000 interviews in February and March across 15 countries including Australia, China and the United States.
