WIMBLEDON 2013: Mario Bartoli into Wimbledon semi as she ends American Sloane Stephens' teen dream on Court One

Marion Bartoli, of France, dodged the rain to take her place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon with a 6-4, 7-5 win over American Sloane Stephens.
The match was delayed by two and a half hours after the player’s left the court with the first set poised on a knife-edge: Bartoli 5-4 up and at deuce.
She campaigned for the players to go off, pointing to the sky and shrugging her arms in disgust. The crowd booed her for her apparent gamesmanship, believing she wanted Stephens to come back to serve cold.

The rain grew heavier and, after consultation between the umpire, referee and players, the action was suspended.
It had been a good contest to that point but when they re-emerged under grey skies, Stephens’ rhythm had deserted her. She surrendered the set in an instant.

The second set was remarkable for barely a point being won on serve. Four service games were yielded to love.
Most extraordinarily, Stephens had won just one point on her own serve by the time she served to stay in the match at 5-4 down. But, miracle of miracle, she made it 5-5. Then, Bartoli went 6-5 up.
The No 15 seed duly broke yet again to maintain her record of not having lost a set in the tournament.
