Top Celebrity Trends of 2013

You've burned images like Miley Cyrus and her foam finger into our brains, made us seriously question whether we were too old to wear a crop top, and "blurred the lines" as to how many selfies is too many. Check out the top trends in pop culture for 2013:Booty Baring Dresses and TMI Talk: I see London, I see France, 2013 was surely the year of celebs without underpants! Gwyneth Paltrow kicked the trend off when she hit the "Iron Man 3" premiere red carpet in an Antonio Berardi Fall 2013 dress with sheer side panels that hinted at her ample rear assets. But it was Gwynnie's comments to Ellen DeGeneres about how she likes to groom her nether regions (and how badly she needed a razor before wearing that dress!) that really got our attention (and grossed us out). However, the Goop guru went on to inspire other leading ladies to don barely there dresses that required them to likely go commando. Jaimie Alexander, Selena Gomez, and Naya Rivera are just a few of the lovely ladies who dared to rock the scandalous trend.

Pixie Cuts: Forget "The Rachel," this was the year of the pixie cut! Stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth all followed in the footsteps of Anne Hathaway and Ginnifer Goodwin by chopping their long locks in favor of the super-short coif. If they opt to start growing their hair out, perhaps next year the hot trend will be the long bob?

Twerking: Miley Cyrus brought the booty-shaking dance move, which was born out of New Orleans' bounce music scene in 1993, to life when she first posted a video in March of herself gyrating in a unicorn jumpsuit. Later, she had one heck of a time showing Robin Thicke her twerk during the MTV VMAs. Since then, the NSFW stripper move has been the butt of many jokes. (Pun intended.) Naturally, in between cracks about the "Wrecking Ball" singer, other celebs including Vanessa Hudgens, Beyoncé, Kate Upton, Harry Styles, and even Matt Lauer attempted to hop on the twerk bandwagon. But no one could quite do it like Miley.

Selfies: The fact that Oxford Dictionaries declared "selfie" as 2013's word of the year is proof that this trend may have some staying power. The term, described in the dictionary as "(n.) a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website," definitely swept through the celebrity world. Selfies, which are practically a daily habit for many photo fanatics, has also grown to include other categories like healthies, duck faces, ab-tastic selfies, and shirtless selfies. A few of our faves from 2013 include: Geraldo Rivera showing he's still got it at 70 by wearing nothing but a towel (yikes!), Nick Jonas wowing us with his drool-worthy abs, and bromantic Gerard Butler and Bradley Cooper taking a snap together at Wimbledon.

Hashtagging (everything!): Honestly, if we could hashtag this post we would (oh wait, we did — #celebtrends2013)! The Twitter trend has not only turned into a marketing tool — we're looking at you Justin Bieber with your #MusicMondays — but it's also a badge of honor for many fan groups: #katycats, #beliebers, #bachelornation, #littlemonsters, and the list goes on. Putting the pound sign in front of anything and everything is has also brought us our favorite Jimmy Fallon sketch #ofalltime and some of our favorite phrases of 2013: #yolo.

Prancersizing: Original prancersizer Johanna Rohrback claimed that her galloping gait was simply a good workout, but let's be honest, it simply gave us a good excuse to wear white spandex and bounce around like a My Little Pony. Of course, celebs were quick to trot along with this trend by making their own prancersize videos. It was John Mayer who won the Kentucky Derby of prancersizing when he asked Rohrback to star in his lyric video for "Paper Doll" and coined the term "romancersizing." Let's leave this trend in 2013, shall we?

Photobombing: Right up there with selfies is the art of crashing someone else's photo. Jennifer Lawrence easily leads the pack of the best celeb photobombers, but Selena Gomez, Beyoncé, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Kevin Spacey, have also proven to be photobomb pros. This is one trend we hope sticks around for 2014.
