SALZBURG, January 11, 2014 - After his fall in training at the ski flying event in Bad Mitterndorf, Three-times Olympic ski jump champion Thomas Morgenstern was treated in a hospital in Salzburg. According to a statement published by FIS the Doctors said the Austrian suffered a serious cranial injury and a lung contusion.
"Thomas Morgenstern is conscious and responsive. He will now be in intensive care for the next 72 hours.The next official statement on the condition of Thomas Morgenstern will be made on Monday, at 9:00 am CET in the UKH Salzburg,"read part of the statement. The serious fall clouded the first day of ski flying at the Kulm. Morgenstern fell in the second training round at 100 m, lost his consciousness and slid down the landing area of the ski flying hill. Morgenstern was then responsive again and after a first medical check it was said that his injuries are not as serious as it first seemed. Teammate Wolfgang Loitzl: "If a teammate falls, you are not only thinking about yourself, your thoughts are also with him. I hope that Morgi will get well soon." Head coach Alexander Pointner: "After such a fall you have to see if the other members of the team are able to ski fly." |
