U OF TORONTO TO HOST 2014 NATIONAL SOCCER COACHING CONFERENCE, PRESENTED BY BELL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues will host the third annual National Soccer Coaching Conference, presented by Bell, January 31-February 2, at Varsity Centre.

This year's event will feature 10 internationally renowned clinicians and guest speakers from across North America in a new three-day format that includes 16 on-field sessions, four classroom sessions, written training plans, complimentary food and giveaways.

"The slogan for this conference is progress through education," said Capotosto. "We are providing an opportunity for coaches at all levels to learn the game of soccer from some of the top instructors in North America. It is through this kind of professional development that we will be able to better serve Canada's next generation of soccer talent."

The featured clinicians and guest speakers include: Tony Fonseca, technical director of the Canadian Soccer Association, Tony DiCicco, former head coach of the U.S. women's national team, Martin Vasquez, current assistant coach with the U.S. men's national team, and 11-year veteran of Canada's women's national team and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, Candace Chapman.

Former Toronto FC player, now the head coach of the KIA Toronto FC senior academy team, Danny Dichio will also be on hand, along with the team's strength and conditioning head coach, Richard Bucciarelli. Colin Miller, head coach of FC Edmonton, Marc Dos Santos, head coach of the Ottawa Fury FC, and Kristine Lilly, former member of the U.S. women's national team and inductee into the US Olympic Hall of Fame will be there to provide insight into coaching methodology and how to run effective training sessions.

Last but not least, Isaac Raymond, the national referee assessor and instructor with the Canadian Soccer Association, is set to speak about the laws of the game.

"The knowledge and expertise these clinicians/guest speakers are going to provide at the conference will raise awareness and open our eyes new and effective training methods," continued Capotosto. ""For the young aspiring coach, to the more experienced coach, this weekend will be a learning experience like no other."

The University of Toronto's state-of-the-art Varsity Centre will be used for all on-field sessions. Players used for those sessions will include members of the Varsity Blues men's and women's soccer team as well as the Toronto FC Academy.
