WNT Canada to face former FIFA Women’s World Cup champions

It has been an exciting week for Canadian soccer fans after three very exciting announcements were made in FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ Official Host Cities Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver. From May to October 2014, host Canada will face former world champions USA, Germany and Japan in a series of home Women’s International Friendly matches.
Canada will face USA on 8 May in Winnipeg, Germany on 18 June in Vancouver, and Japan in back-to-back matches on 25 October in Edmonton and 28 October in Vancouver. All four dates fall on the FIFA women’s international match calendar.
“To ensure Canada offers consistent, world-class performances, Canada Soccer believes that it must play against quality opponents more often and that it must play at home on a regular basis,” said Victor Montagliani, President of Canada Soccer.
Announcements were made on successive days in the three host cities, with Canadian coach John Herdman on hand throughout the buzz week for women’s soccer. Players Desiree Scott (Winnipeg), Stephanie Labbé (Edmonton) and Sophie Schmidt (Vancouver) also attended the events, as did Canada Soccer president Victor Montagliani and general secretary Peter Montopoli.
Tickets for the 8 May Canada-USA match will go on sale on 14 February while tickets for the 18 June Canada-Germany match will go on sale on 21 February (including two-match packs which include the 28 October Canada-Japan match). Individual tickets to both Canada-Japan matches will go on sale later this year.

Canada’s Women’s National Team to host Germany and Japan in Vancouver

5 February 2014
Canada’s Women’s National Team will host two of the world’s most dominant women’s soccer nations in Vancouver in 2014 when it plays Germany, Thursday 19 June (kickoff 19.00 local) and Japan, Tuesday 28 October (kickoff 19.00 local). Both Women’s International Friendly matches will be played at BC Place.
“To ensure Canada’s Women’s National Team offers consistent, world-class performances, Canada Soccer believes that it must play against quality opponents more often, and play at home on a regular basis,” said Victor Montagliani, President of Canada Soccer. “Vancouver has demonstrated its enthusiasm towards the beautiful game and we are thrilled to bring some of the fiercest opponents international women’s soccer can offer so that our Women’s National Team can experience the support of their home fans again on the road to Canada 2015.”
Germany won its first 5 games (out of 10) in FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers from September to November 2013, looking poised to qualify for FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™. Canada has yet to beat Germany, but the last two results were close encounters decided by one goal differential.
Tickets for the June match between Canada and Germany will go on sale on Friday 21 February, and will be available starting at $20 (plus applicable fees). Single tickets for the October Canada-Japan clash will go on sale at a later date, but a two-match pack, featuring both the Germany and Japan matches will be on sale on 21 February starting at $36 (plus applicable fees).
In a continued effort to offer the soccer community affordable access to these matches, special group rates and discounted family packs will also be offered.
In addition, purchasers of tickets for the Canada’s Women’s National Team matches in Vancouver will be offered a special opportunity to opt-in to a Priority Access list to purchase venue packs for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ matches at BC Place when the packs go on sale.
