Toronto FC Academy rode a Molham Babouli hat-trick to a comprehensive 5-1 win over Master's Futbol Academy Saints in Scarborough on Saturday.
In fairness, the result was rarely in doubt, with TFCA flying out of the gate and dominating play thoughout. The Junior Reds peppered the MFA goal with thirteen first half shots. Only one was directed on the TFC goal.
It took TFCA just fifteen minutes to break MFA down. After drawing a foul, Dylan Sacramento whipped a perfect cross towards goal that Christopher Manella flicked gracefully into goal after a nicely timed run.
Ten minutes later, TFCA was at it again. It would prove to be Babouli's first of the night. Showing a goal scorer's instincts, he struck low and to the corner after the always dangerous Sacramento found a gap in the MFA backline.
Just four minutes later, Babouli struck again via a sloppy clearance out of the back. Gathering up the loose ball, the striker showed his pace by darting between the two MFA centre backs. The only difference with his second finish compared to his first is that he went high corner, rather than low, with the drive.
MFA returned from the half-time break with a new commitment to being defensively organized. No longer conceding soft shots, it was going to require something special for TFCA to get a fourth.
Sacramento again provided the special ingredient. A poor goal kick was gobbled up by the midfielder about forty-five yards from goal. Sprinting forward ten yards, he let go an audacious thirty-five yard effort that turned out to be inspired. Perfectly placed in the corner, it made the score 4-0 and effectively secured the Junior Reds their first three points.
After Babouli completed the hat trick with a short range effort that came off eight straight completed passes – tensions boiled over.
A scrum in midfield ended with some pushing and shoving, and a straight red card to TFCA captain Marco Rodriguez. It appeared that he had kicked an MFA player.
Down to ten men, TFCA were content to play out the clock. A loss in concentration would deny the clean sheet when Alex Dimitriu would fire neatly across his body to send the TFCA keeper going the wrong way.
However, MFA's late tally proved to be just a minor side-note in what finished as TFCA's most complete display of the season thus far.
