Ontario teams prepare for National Championships 2014



The quest for gold begins next week as the top club teams from across Canada will compete at the 2014 Sport Chek National Club Championships from October 8-13 in four host cities.
Each province/territory has the opportunity to send a provincial/territorial champion to the competition in hopes of emerging victorious. Ontario’s representatives for the Sport Chek National Club Championships qualified for the competition by winning the Ontario Cup.

Ontario teams preparing for National Championships

The quest for gold begins next week as the top club teams from across Canada will compete at the 2014 Sport Chek National Club Championships from October 8-13 in four host cities. Each province/territory has the opportunity to send a provincial/territorial champion to the competition in hopes of emerging victorious.
Ontario’s representatives for the Sport Chek National Club Championships qualified for the competition by winning the Ontario Cup. Provincial Champions representing Ontario at Nationals are:

The U-18 representatives come from the U-17 divisions of the Ontario Cup, as many of the players playing in the U-18 divisions attend college or university. As hosts of the Senior divisions, Ontario qualified two Men’s and two Women’s teams due to an odd number of provinces/territories entered in the competition.
Teams will compete in a Round Robin format in the early days of the competition, finishing with the Final games on Monday, October 13. The Men’s Semi-Finals on Sunday, October 12, and the Men’s and Women’s Finals on Monday, October 13, will be available live by webstream via the CSA website.
At the 2013 National Club Championships, Ontario won six medals – three Gold, one Silver, and two Bronze. This year’s representatives will strive to match those impressive results as they go up against Canada’s best.
Every year, four provinces take on the responsibility of hosting a National Club Championships division. The four hosts for the 2014 competition are listed below:

This year Ontario will host the highly anticipated Senior divisions. With the top Men’s and Women’s teams in the country competing for National Gold, Vaughan will be the place to be next week!

Gatorade and OPDL teaming up
The Ontario Soccer Association and Gatorade are joining forces around the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL), the province’s first standards-based high performance program. Gatorade will sponsor the OPDL through the 2016 season as the exclusive sport beverage partner.

Ontario referee invited to elite CONCACAF course
Amato De Luca, an Ontario referee, national assessor and instructor, was recently invited by CONCACAF to an elite referee and assessors course in Florida.
The program was led by FIFA instructors Esse Baharmast, Peter Prendergast, Rodolfo Sibrian and Hector Vergara. Erick Samayoa and Allan Brown -- FIFA Referee Fitness Instructors for the CONCACAF region – directed the conditioning aspects, while CONCACAF Deputy General Secretary Ted Howard, a member of the FIFA Referees Committee, and CONCACAF consultant Brian Hall were also on hand to share their expertise.

League1 Ontario Profile - Toronto FC's Chris Mannella
TFC Academy product Chris Mannella recently signed a pro-contract with the TFC senior team.
It has been an exciting year for Toronto FC Academy and Chris Mannella.
Mannella, who recently signed a pro-contract with TFC's senior team, reflected on what the year in League1 Ontario has meant for him and his development. He also discussed what it means for the Academy side who has been the class of the division in the inaugural season.

Grassroots Practices You Can Use - FUNdamentals
The Grassroots department continues putting together a practice for coaches to use with their players across the province. Each week will focus on one of the three LTPD development stages at the Grassroots level, which includes Active Start, FUNdamentals and Learn to Train.

Canada Para-Soccer team finishes fourth at America Cup
Canada's Para-Soccer teams wrapped up a strong showing at the America Cup with a fourth-place finish and a qualification for the Para-Pan Am Games in 2015.
After finishing with a win and a tie in their group stage, Canada lost to Brazil, the eventual tournament winners, in the semi-finals. Despite some strong play in the bronze medal game Canada fell 3-0 to the USA.

High School students earning soccer credits
Getting an education in Grassroots soccer has never been so easy.
The Ontario Soccer Association, through its Grassroots Soccer Development department is now working with Bishop MacDonnell Catholic High School in Guelph, to provide 23 students in its Health and Physical Education Soccer Course with instruction in soccer coaching and player development.

OSA Soccer Development Conference - Save the date
The OSA has announced that this year's Soccer Development Conference will be held at RIM Park in Waterloo. In the ever widening event, the conference will be held on March 21 and 22 and the first guest speaker has confirmed her attendance.
Vanessa Martínez Lagunas is a FIFA Women’s Soccer Instructor, UEFA/DFB Pro License and NSCAA Premier Diploma holder and former player of the Mexico WNT. She has coaching experience at several levels of the game in Germany, Mexico and the United States in addition to being a featured clinician at the 2012/13 NSCAA Conventions.
She is the current Head Coach at the University of Manitoba and is only one of 30 Female Pro License holders in the world.
More details, including clinicians and special events, will be released in the coming months.

Scheduled to kick off on November 1, 2014, PISL offers 11-aside soccer for U-14 to U-18 age divisions for both boys and girls.
