North Mississauga Panthers helped Vaughan Azzurri to their second draw in as many matches, with the Azzuri falling further off pace with Durham and Woodbridge at top of the table. North Mississauga further entrenched their fourth place standing with this 0-0 result.
"Game was a neutral game," said North Mississauga assistant coach, Trevor Bertrand.
"Vaughan controlled the midfield for a period of time until we made the adjustment to nullify the threat."
In a game of few clear-cut chances either way, the Panthers set a low defensive block that left little more for the Azzurri than to try their luck from distance, efforts which North Miss keeper Claudia Rusu handled comfortably.
"Chances for Vaughan came from free kicks, but we did not allow them into the the eighteen yard area and so their shots were from distance being very comfortable for our keeper," confirmed Bertrand.
"We created a few chances, and had a break-away that was shot over the cross bar," he added. "Half time we decided to sit back and counter with the speed up front, which almost paid off with some great opportunities."
Both teams utilized a depth of youth in their respective squads, with North Miss in particular dipping into their upcoming talent pool.
"We utilized six players that really impressed me, including center back Katrina Grgic, who as the game progressed got stronger and was a factor in the back," said Bertrand.
"Ashl‎ey Barry, who played the holding mid, was also very effective."
North Mississauga Panthers are at home again in matchweek 17, facing ANB Futbol at the Hershey Centre, Mississauga, on Saturday September 19 - 4 p.m. kickoff.
Vaughan heads to the home of Sanjaxx Lions on Saturday September 19, kicking off at Monarch Park Stadium, Toronto, at 6 p.m.
