2016 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Futsal Championship: Cuba tops Curacao for CFU futsal crown

HAVANA – January 28, 2016 Cuba got a pair of goals from both Fernando Chapman and Karen Mariño to earn a 5-0 win over Curacao in the final of the 2016 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Futsal Championship on Tuesday at the Sala Kid Chocolate.
The finalists also earned places in this year’s CONCACAF Futsal Championship, which will qualify four teams to the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia.
Chapman, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Jhonnet Martinez made it 2-0 just before halftime, before Chapman netted his second in the 28th minute.
Mariño completed the scoreline with rapid strikes in the 33rd and 34th minutes.
In the match for third place, Trinidad & Tobago edged Guadeloupe, 5-4, on the strength of a Jerywn Balthazar hat-trick. Mickael Burlet also netted three goals for the Guadeloupeans in the loss.
