WNT Canada, a scoring machine 6-0 against Costa Rica, at BMO Field; hat trick for Beckie, two goals for 16-year old Jordyn Huitema



 


By JUAN CARLOS CORDERO, UNO INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE, Toronto, Canada.- WNT Canada was a scoring machine in less than 20 minutes 4-0 against Costa Rica, at BMO Field in Toronto for the second match of Canada Soccer Series. The first game was won by Canada too, 3-1 in Winnipeg.

In Toronto, center forward Janine Beckie, of Houston Dash, # 16 with John Herdman's Women's Soccer National team, scored a hat trick with goals at 5', 12' and 19'. Diane Rose opened the score at 2' with a shot between the Costa Rican goalkeeper, Noelia Bermudez, of Levante, Spain, and the first post.

The Costa Rica's team coached by Amelia Valverde could not keep with the power and intensity of Canadians.  Not even captain Shirley Cruz, of Paris Sain Germain, could take control of the tempo. Schmidt defended well in the middle, while Fleming and Lawrence transitioned fast from midfield to attack. Christine Sinclair gave assistance to goals and could score in the last minute of first half, but waited to much and the CDF of Costa Rica was able to clear.
