Savage x Fenty may still be in its infancy as a lingerie label, but its pop star turned designer Rihanna has made sure the brand is already light-years ahead of Victoria’s Secret when it comes to showing size-inclusivity and diversity on its runway.
Rihanna closed out New York Fashion Week on Wednesday night with her most epic fashion show to date for Savage x Fenty — at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which was transformed into a botanical space filled with exotic florals, hydroponics, and, of course, lingerie.
Strutting the catwalk were top models including Bella HadidGigi HadidJoan Smalls, and a diverse and inclusive group spanning all sizes, shapes, and ethnicities. Plus-size models were intermixed with those who were petite; Asian and black models commingled; and top models shared the spotlight with those who are up-and-coming.

In one particularly spectacular moment, two visibly pregnant models walked the stage as the crowd cheered them on. One of the expectant mothers was 22-year-old Slick Woods, also RiRi’s model muse, who announced her pregnancy in July and on Wednesday bared her pregnant belly, wearing only black pasties and a revealing dominatrix-style lingerie set. A second pregnant model danced her way along the runway in a white sheer bodysuit.

The entire show was provocative, alluring, and basically unlike any other New York Fashion Week event — particularly when models came down the runway doing interpretive, animalistic dances, embodying Rihanna’s “savage” world.

Rihanna just changed the game with diverse lingerie fashion show at NYFW

Rihanna changed the game when she made her return to New York Fashion Week with her Savage x Fenty lingerie collection. The show, which was streamed live on YouTube, made huge waves on the internet Wednesday night when it featured women of all body sizes and ethnicities. Along with well-known supermodels, like Joan Smalls and sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, were curvy models and two pregnant models, and Twitter went absolutely crazy for it. One person tweeted:  rihanna really is THE one. she created a lingerie line for all shapes, colors and sizes and put women of ALL shapes, colors and sizes on the runway. she put inclusion on a whole other level and other designers need to take notes. — justine (@biticonjustine) September 13, 2018 While others wrote: ALL Shapes, ALL Colors, ALL Sizes, RIHANNA DID THAT #SavageXFenty pic.twitter.com/T5rqsMLUz7 — FashionweekNYC (@FashionweekNYC) September 13, 2018 Rihanna had whole unborn babies in her show like wow she really did that #SAVAGExFENTY pic.twitter.com/bqNHnmbJBg — Kiki (@kxshedKi) September 13, 2018 Rihanna clearly doesn’t play when it comes to diversity #SavageXFenty pic.twitter.com/JrYrt24kGd — ☾ (@eallets) September 13, 2018 Super models mixed with regular people; pregnant, thick, skinny, black, white, asian. #SAVAGExFENTY is for everyone. — Taay-K 47. And on the Savage x Fenty runway, Rihanna showcased that inclusivity and concluded it with the models holding hands in solidarity of their womanhood. Of course, at the end of the show, Rihanna looked super classy as she took a walk around the runway herself.
