Disappointment. That’s the feeling the Swedish players will be feeling right now. They were so close and they believed so much in the possibility of reaching a World Cup final. They had their chances tonight as well and were perhaps a goalpost away from the big final. But it’s been the defence that had to work the hardest, with Nilla Fischer, Hanna Glas and Hedvig Lindahl three of the most outstanding players for the Scandinavians this evening, and they were really put to the test. And it was a test that seemed like they would pass, but extra time became too much in the end. There will be tears tonight, and then these players will once again have to show their mental strength as they re-focus ahead of the match for third place against England in Nice.

What a football thriller that was. It took the Netherlands and Sweden a full 120 minutes plus extra time in hot and humid Lyon to decide who gets to face off against holders USA in Sunday’s World Cup final. In the end, the Oranjeleeuwinnen only needed a single moment of brilliance from Jackie Groenen to book their ticket to an historic first ever final! See you in a few days, Lyon!

There probably isn’t a single person in the Stade de Lyon not sitting on the edge of their seat right now. What an end to this match! The Netherlands and Sweden have made this semi-final a tactical battle, where one moment of brilliance from Jackie Groenen is the only thing that separates the two sides at the moment. Just over ten minutes left in the second half of extra-time.

It's all or nothing for the Swedes now. They have 15 minutes left to do anything in their power to get back into this match. Do they have that extra energy and willpower that's needed to do it?

With the first half of extra time behind us, there are now just 15 minutes between the Oranjeleeuwinnen and the World Cup final. But the Swedes are far from beaten, putting some pressure on Sari van Veenendaal’s goal just before the break.

Sweden will be happy that the golden goal rule does not apply anymore (which is how they lost the final against Germany in 2003). They've shown their mental strength before in this tournament by coming from behind against Germany. Can they do it again? There is still time!

Jackie Groenen breaks the deadlock! After the Oranjeleeuwinnen had been increasing the pressure on the Swedish goal in past few minutes, Groenen finds the back of the net with a beautiful, low shot across the face of Hedvig Lindahl’s goal. Will this be the goal that takes the Dutch to their historic first ever World Cup final? A little under 20 minutes remain..

Jackie GROENEN (Netherlands) scores!!
Groenen opens the scoring with a low, driven shot to the far post past Lindahl for her third international goal, and most crucially, potentially a goal that will send her nation to a first ever Women's World Cup Final.

Tension builds in the first half of extra time, as physical battles, especially in the midfield, get tougher and tougher. This semi-final might not be featuring the most creative brand of football from either side, like many fans had hoped for, but it’s an intriguing game of 'tactical chess’ for sure! Who will be the one saying, 'checkmate'?

Look away, Sweden fans!
This is the third time in history that Sweden head to extra time in Women's World Cup history. On the previous two occasions, they ultimately lost the match: defeat by China PR on penalties in the 1995 quarter-finals and a 2-1 defeat by Germany in the 2003 final. Will it be a case of third time's a charm for them today?

We are getting to the part of the match where nerves are building more and more. How should you handle that? Well, you accept that you are nervous. That's what Rasmus Wallin Tornberg, the Swedish team's psychologist has been teaching the players.
“He’s talked a lot about accepting feelings, about being nervous, irritated or frustrated, but that you can still perform while having those feelings," Sweden coach Peter Gerhardsson said. "The longer you get in the tournament, the more important it becomes that you can accept these feelings, that you can still make the pass or run to defend, even if you feel nervous.”
