The Canadian Soccer Association announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with Canada's Women's National Team Head Coach John Herdman that will now see him lead the Canadian women's program through 2020.
"The Canadian Soccer Association is thrilled to renew its commitment of having John Herdman as Canada's Women's National Team Head Coach through 2020," said Peter Montopoli, Canadian Soccer Association General Secretary. "Just like it was the case when we initially announced him as our new Women's Head Coach two years ago almost to the day, we continue to believe that John has the leadership and vision to develop the clear pathway this country needs to grow women's football in addition to world class performances on the pitch."
Initially under contract through the 2016 Olympics, Herdman has already built significant momentum around the women's program, leading the squad to an unexpected and highly inspiring bronze medal performance at the 2012 London Olympic Games. His work in building the Women's National Team Program can already be identified as a driving force for the development of the women's game in Canada, and will contribute greatly to the establishment of a strong legacy for the sport of soccer in this country on the heels of the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015."I am thrilled to know that I have the support from the Canadian Soccer Association to not only build a strong Women's program but also to have the opportunity to implement it and see it through after the Canada 2015," said John Herdman. "We now have the clarity to move forward, focus on our performances and put in place the stepping stones to truly leaving a lasting legacy for women's football in Canada."

Canada last faced USA on 2 June in front of a record-setting crowd at BMO Field in Toronto, ON. The clash concluded in a USA win (3:0) over the Canadians.
In the 6 August semi-final of the 2012 London Women’s Olympic Football Tournament, and what quickly became one of the most talked about soccer matches in recent history, Canada offered a courageous performance, taking the lead three times against rival USA. Ultimately, Canada was defeated in the last minute of extra time in a physically and emotionally shattering match before rallying to win the bronze medal against France, capturing the hearts of a nation in the process.
Canada WNT has an all-time record of three wins, five draws and 45 losses in 53 international ‘A’ matches against USA dating back to 1986.
The 2014 Canada-USA match will allow the Women’s National Team to continue its preparation for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015TM.
Canada WNT returns to Vancouver to host Mexico
Canada Women’s National Team, and Olympic bronze medallist, will host Mexico in a Women’s International Friendly match at BC Place in Vancouver on 24 November 2013 (kickoff 13.00 local time). The match, presented by Bell, will mark Canada’s Women’s National Team’s return to Vancouver and the first time the two nations face off since Canada booked its ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games with a 3:1 win over Mexico at the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament held in Vancouver in January 2012.“The Canadian Soccer Association is thrilled to have the Women’s National Team host an International Friendly at BC Place in Vancouver this November,” said Peter Montopoli, Canadian Soccer Association General Secretary. “This match gives the fans the opportunity to see their Canadian Olympic heroes in person and highlight the incredible support the team has received since its inspiring Olympic journey.”
Tickets for the Canada-Mexico match on 24 November will go on sale via Ticketmaster on Friday 13 September. Tickets will be available starting at $15 (plus applicable fees) and special group rates (10 or more) will be offered. All ticket and event details will be posted to canadasoccer.com as they are confirmed.
The 24 November match will also be broadcast live nationally on Sportsnet One (10.00 ET / 13.00 PT).
“We look forward to building on the momentum of hosting matches at home and are confident Vancouver will once again show its passion for the beautiful game just as it did in January 2012 when record crowds attended the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament,” added Montopoli. “This match will not only serve as great preparation for the Women’s National Team, but also for the city of Vancouver as both prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.”
Vancouver is one of the six Official Host Cities for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015TM and will have the privilege of hosting the world’s largest women’s football tournament championship match.
