After weeks and weeks of build up to their big day, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are finally man and wife – and we’re drowning in every miniscule, over-the-top detail. Let’s just get this over with, shall we? (It’s like ripping off a bandage – once we get through today, our lives will become a little less Kardashian-filled, right? RIGHT?!??)
Let’s start with the black and white-themed ceremony, shall we? The famous couple tied the knot Saturday on a private estate in the Southern California hill town of Montecito in a ceremony which kicked off 37 minutes (fashionably) late.
Kardashian was walked down the aisle by stepfather Bruce Jenner. The Vera Wang-clad bride paid homage to her late father in a program printed and handed out to guests, reports E! News. It read: "I so wish my dad could be here today to walk me down the aisle, but I know in a way he is here, and I feel his loving presence all around me. I love and miss you, dad."
Despite the sweet sentiments, Kardashian managed to maintain her composure at the altar. (Hey, did you really think she was going to risk looking like a mascara-covered raccoon in front of all of those reality TV cameras?)
"Kim didn't cry," a guest told Us Weekly. "She was smiling the whole time."
Kardashian may have been as cool as a cucumber but a source told People Humphries was overheard saying "I'm nervous," before his bride walked down the aisle.
During the 30-minute ceremony, the officiator read aloud three things that the couple had secretly written down about each other prior to the big day, reports E! News.
Humphries praised his bride for her passion and Kardashian complimented her man for making her smile and bringing fun to her life.
Following the ceremony, Humphries’ family made a heartfelt speech. "They acknowledged it took some time to get used to Kim's public life, but they have grown to accept and appreciate her amazing work ethic. They have never met someone who is so dedicated and hard working as Kim," an insider told Us Weekly.
If Kardashian's star power wasn't enough to make this the biggest wedding in reality TV history, she invited a few guests along to help her out in the ratings department. Among the chosen few were Lindsay Lohan, Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz, Ciara, La La and Carmelo Anthony, Scotty Pippen, Mario Lopez, Brody Jenner and Avril Lavigne, Serena and Venus Williams, Vera Wang, Brittny and Lisa Gastineau, David Spade, George Lopez, Robin Antin, Mel B, Lara Spencer, Cheryl Burke, Mark Ballas, Irving and Shelly Azoff and Joe Francis, reports Us Weekly.
Stars Tweeted their excitement for the happy couple while en route to the giant shindig. Basketball player Carmelo Anthony attended with his wife La La Vazquez, who Tweeted, "Butterflies in my stomach for @KimKardashian & @Krishumphries...beyond excited for today! the Anthonys are on our way! Love is in the Air!"
Ryan Seacrest took his leading lady, Julianne Hough, as his plus one Julianne Hough, Tweeted, "On the way to @kimkardashian's wedding…Traffic so bad on the [Highway] 101 I had to stop at cold stone creamery."
Later, he added, "Beautiful..kim looked regal, a perfect night. I just danced with the whole family."
The bride and groom kicked off the reception with their first dance, which was to “Angel,” sung by Robin Thicke. Sources told Us Weekly that guests were also treated to a performance by Earth, Wind and Fire and snacks that included $750,000 worth of caviar, kobe beef burgers and truffles.
During the party Lindsay Lohan, who donned the same gown as Pippa Middleton at Prince William and Kate Middleton's reception, was spotted with her mother and sister. An eyewitness told RadarOnline, "She was drinking and partying hard...I saw her order shots from the bar."
Lohan wasn't the only one getting her party on. Sources say that the reception was so over-the-top that it was shut down early due to noise complaints from neighbours. Kim’s younger sister, Khloe, tried to handle the situation with security, a source told Us Weekly. "She was talking to security guards -- her friend's family knows the mayor of Montecito and they tried even to get in touch with him. Everyone in the neighborhood knew this wedding was happening. Just let them have their fun!"
The guests may have gone home early, but they didn't leave empty handed. Us Weekly says the gift bags included a notepad with the couple's picture on it, a candle wrapped in a KK-embroidered box and heart-shaped Krispy Kreme donuts.
So how much did this $10 million US wedding cost the Kardashian klan? Probably not a penny, reports MSN Finance. The couple reportedly raked in more than $17 million US on their big day, receiving $2.4 million from People magazine for the exclusive photo rights and another $15 million for the E! special, Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event (set to air in October).
A celebrity event planner told the site that most of the costs were most likely comped in exchange for coverage and publicity. "It benefits the vendors, their goods and services (to be) shown to millions of people," he said.
According to MSN Finance, Kardashian’s three Vera Wang wedding gowns (estimated to cost $20,000 each) were provided by the designer. Perrier Jouet Champagne supplied $400,000 worth of champagne and an L.A. celebrity bakery kicked in a $15,000, 10-tiered wedding cake.
Adding to the already astounding numbers are another $150,000 in comped hair and makeup and nearly $6 million in jewelry, which included discounted wedding day jewelry, wedding bands and engagement ring -- and let's not forget about the $50,000 bachelorette party that was sponsored by Tao in Las Vegas.
Kim Kardashian's wedding party cut short after complaints
Kim Kardashian's wedding reception was cut short after neighbours complained to the police.
The celebration following the reality star's nuptials with basketball player Kris Humphries in Montecito, California, on Saturday (20.08.11) was set to last until 4am, but a fire marshal ordered the music to be turned off at midnight.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Around midnight DJ Cassidy, who had been spinning for an hour, was ordered to shut down because the neighbours were complaining about the volume of the music. The neighbours didn't come over, but they called the police.
"Kim took the news OK and seemed relaxed about it, but her sister Khloe was pretty upset."
The party continued without the music for a while longer, but most guests had left by around 1.30 am on Sunday (21.08.11) morning.
Guest Ryan Seacrest tweeted afterwards: "Beautiful ... Kim looked regal, a perfect night. I just danced w the whole family. (sic)"
The evening's festivities - held in a huge marquee erected in the garden of a private residence - had started with singer Robin Thicke introducing the couple and leading them in their first dance, before speeches from Kim's mother Kris Jenner and stepfather Bruce Jenner, the groom, then Kim's sisters Khloe and Kourtney, who shared maid of honour duties.
The speeches were followed by a set from funk act Earth Wind and Fire, before the couple cut their wedding cake. Kim had changed into her third Vera Wang dress of the day ahead of her cutting the multi-tiered chocolate-and-vanilla swirl cake studded with chocolate chips.
Celebrity guests at the reception included Lindsay Lohan - who was pictured looking ready to fall asleep in the passenger seat of a car as she left - Eva Longoria, Mel B, tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, Avril Lavigne and Demi Lovato.
The happy couple were then seen emerging from the Montecito hotel where they spent their wedding night on Sunday morning (21.08.11), looking fresh faced.
Kim wore a white Juicy Couture tracksuit with the words 'Mrs Humphries' written on the front.
