- Pogo1 hour ago10The stupidity of these kind of odds is that, effectively, the chance of any but the top 8 teams winning is zero. 100 to 1 means that, theoretically, if we (or a computer) replayed the world cup 100 times, once, say, Japan would end up winning. But in fact, we could replay the world cup 1000 times and Japan would never win. So why post these odds at all (obviously, because the bookies will make some cash if enough die-hard fans place small bets on bad teams for the hell of it)? This isn't like the NCAA tournament where crazy things can happen because every game is one and done. The group stage takes care of most of the dark horses, and the talent gap is just too big for any outsider to have more than one or two lucky games in the knockouts.Reply
