2013 Canadian Soccer Association Sport Chek National Club Championships

The 2013 Canadian Soccer Association Sport Chek National Club Championships kick off this Wednesday 9 October and run through Monday 14 October. These championships are Canada’s premier amateur club competition.

Over 2,700 players, staff and officials from across the country will convene to decide this year’s national champions in four host cities:

Halifax, NS
Men’s Challenge Trophy and Women’s Jubilee Trophy

St. John’s, NL
U-18 Cup (boys and girls)

Kamloops, BC
U-16 Cup (boys and girls)
Lethbridge, AB
U-14 Cup (boys and girls)
“These Championships represent more than a chance to compete at the elite level,” says Canadian Soccer Association President Victor Montagliani. “They’re an opportunity for athletes, coaches and officials to represent their province or territory, while pursuing their dreams through the beautiful game.”

Parents, fans and players alike can follow the competition as it unfolds on canadasoccer.com/nationals where daily tournament reviews, schedules and results will be posted. All final scores will also be posted via twitter.com @CanadaSoccerEN.

Teams are also invited to share their tournament experience by posting their pictures and videos on our Facebook page at facebook.com/canadasoccer.

FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™
The FIFA Women's World Cup is held every four years, with the next edition to be played in Canada in 2015. It marks the first major sporting event hosted in Canada from coast to coast, with matches to be played in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montréal and Moncton. The FIFA Women's World Cup will feature the 24 best women's football teams in the world.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ will be preceded one year earlier by the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, one of two FIFA women’s youth tournaments. The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup returns to Canada for the first time since 2002. The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Canada 2014 will feature 16 teams featuring players born 1994 or later.
The National Organising Committee for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™ features Victor Montagliani (chair), Steven Reed, Janine Helland, Doug Redmond, Clare Rustad, Walter Sieber and Peter Montopoli.

Canada Soccer communications team update

Dear members of the media,

On behalf of the Canadian Soccer Association, we hope the first nine months of 2013 have been has filled with emotions and exciting experiences as it has been for us.

We are pleased today to share with you some organizational updates regarding our communications team.

With the aim of continually providing you with timely and quality service, we are thrilled to inform you that we are adding two new resources to Canada Soccer’s media/communications staff, effective immediately.

Gavin Day is joining us as our new National Teams Media Officer and will become your main point of contact for any requests surrounding the National Teams activities.

Many of you know Gavin as he joins Canada Soccer after two years in Toronto working in the world of freelance journalism. He's been to more than 10 countries covering Canada's National Teams and also has worked as a reporter (Vancouver) and a researcher (London) covering Olympic Games. He has experience in both the world of broadcast media (has a broadcast journalism diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby, BC) and in print.

Gavin will be based out of Canada Soccer’s Toronto office. He will also be your media contact for the Men’s National Team camp in London next week. Gavin can be reached at gday@canadasoccer.com (phone number to follow shortly).

Ignacio Estefanell is coming on as Communications Coordinator and will offer his support to any general communications requests surrounding Association matters as well as grassroots programs.

Prior to joining Canada Soccer, Ignacio founded Kickabout, Ottawa’s local soccer magazine. He has worked for CBC, and served as the vice-president of the Ottawa Community Loan Fund. Ignacio has a master’s in journalism from Ryerson University and has travelled extensively throughout South America, Asia and the Caribbean.
