And Kate Beckinsale easily defied her 40 years in a blue-sequin halter disco dress for the November edition of C Magazine, on newsstands now.

The Total Recall star maintains her enviable figure with regular 'Yogalosophy' classes with Mandy Ingber, who's also guru to Jennifer Aniston, Brooke Shields, and Helen Hunt.

Beckinsale might be best known for her ass-kicking roles in the Underworld films, but she started out a brainy 'late bloomer.'

When Kate was six, her actor parents discovered she had an IQ of 152 - not unlike her 14-year-old daughter Lily who attends a school for gifted children.

'As a parent, you are never off the hook. Never. It’s a full time job,' Beckinsale said of co-parenting with her ex-partner of eight years, Michael Sheen.

'I mean, how many times do I call my mother [actress Judy Loe]. Stricken with something going, "Help! Help!" And I'm very old to be doing these things.'

When Kate tied the knot in 2004 with husband Len Wiseman at the Hotel Bel-Air, Lily got her own wedding ring.

'Len was initially a bit alarmed. I think teenage girls are a little frightening to dads, but he's usually in the thick of it,' she said.

'And if he's not, he's one of those brilliant people who doesn’t mind when they find him in his man cave and tease him mercilessly. There is nothing nicer than six of seven screeching girls having a great time in your house.'

And Kate will next appear in the drama, The Trials of Cate McCall, with Nick Nolte and James Cromwell.

In it, she plays a former hotshot lawyer fighting to be reinstated at the bar and attempting to recover custody of her daughter.
