VAUGHAN, January 26, 2014 — The first of two Ontario Indoor Cup Final weekends was played at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan over the January 25-26 weekend. Four champions were crowned in the U-14 and U-16 Boys and Girls divisions. Click here for results from the entire weekend.
Under 14 Boys
Vaughan Azzurri 2000 Blue defeated Unionville Milliken 2000 Red in the first semi-final of the day by a score of 5-3. Vaughan’s Joey Bellotti led the attack with two goals, with Arjun Mistry, Christian Palermo and Zakaria Adbi adding a goal each. Unionville Milliken’s goals were notched by Jarek Brome with two and Saif Jaffer. Brampton Blast 00 thumped the North London Elite 00 in the second semi-final, 7-0. David Muenkat owned three goals, while Daniel Mun notched two. Elijah Vital-Sankar and Ayo Akinola each netted one. In the Under 14 Boys Ontario Indoor Cup Final, the Brampton Blast 00 took on the Vaughan Azzurri 2000 in the first Final of the day. The teams seemed evenly matched as the first half progressed with both sides exchanging chances. Towards the end of the first half, Brampton would take control of the contest with two quick goals, both by Alexander Darty. The second half began much like the first, with both teams
creating scoring opportunities. With six minutes left in the game, Brampton’s Ayo Akinola would seal the victory for his team with a beautiful shot into the top corner. Congratulations to the Brampton Blast 00 for their 3-0 win to claim the Under 14 Boys Ontario Indoor Cup!
Under 14 Girls In the first semi-final of the Under 14 Girls division, the Woodbridge Strikers faced off against Glen Shields FC. This well matched semi-final finished in a tie, with Woodbridge’s Julia Ioannou scoring two goals for her side, and Glen Shields Brigitta Pulins and Anna Kowalczyk scoring a goal a-piece. This 2 – 2 score would be further decided in Kicks from the Penalty Mark, with Woodbridge coming out victors, a final score of 3 – 2. In the second semi-final of the Under-14 Girls division, the Thornhill Thunder took on the Richmond Hill Raiders White. Both teams came to win, pushing hard for the provincial gold Richmond Hill’s Vienna Psihos logged a goal, and Thornhill Thunder’s Sabrina Goneau and Albulena Selmani scored a goal each, making the final score 2 – 1 Thornhill over Richmond Hill. In the Under 14Girls Ontario Indoor Cup Final, it was the Woodbridge Strikers facing off with Thornhill Thunder in a tightly played matchup. Thornhill would get on the board first, with a blistering shot from Nicole Kozlova that flew past the Woodbridge goalkeeper. Any momentum built up by Thornhill was gone quickly as Woodbridge’s Anna Kowalczyk would equalize just minutes into the second half. With eleven minutes left in the game, Andrea Tyrell would give Woodbridge the lead with a clever shot just under the crossbar. Thornhill would battle hard in the closing minutes, but was unable to equalize. Congratulations to the Woobdridge Strikers for its 2-1 win to claim the Under 14 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup!
Under 16 Girls In the first Semi-Final of the Under 16 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup, the Richmond Hill Raiders fell one short against the North London Galaxy by a score of 2-1. Scoring for the Galaxy was Maggie McCullough and Nicole Nielsen. The lone goal scorer for the Raiders was Zoe Thompson. The second Semi-Final saw the Mississauga Falcons match up against the Whitby Iroquois 99AF. Whitby Iroquois struck first with a goal three minutes into the game by Alexis Kirton. However, with less than two minutes left in the first half, a quick pass back to Sophie Kiely of Mississauga who then slotted the ball into the net, tied the game. With no other goals scored in the game, a winner would have to be determined by Kicks from the Penalty Mark. Mississauga Falcons outscored Whitby 4-3 to advance to the Final Round In the Under 16 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup Final, North London Galaxy clashed with the Mississauga Falcons in a very close contest. The game was fast paced from the opening whistle as both sides looked to gain an edge. Mississauga was swarming the North London goal, but was unable to convert several chances. The intensity increased as the game wore on but neither team were able to find the back of the net in regulation. This game needed Kicks from the Penalty Mark to decide on a winner, and it would be North London who came out on top with a 3-2 advantage in PKs. Congratulations to North London, the Under 16 Girls Ontario Cup Champions!
Under 16 Boys North London 99 played the Burlington Bayhawks in one of the Under 16 Boys Semi-Finals. First on the board was London’s Patrick Melo, capitalizing on a loose ball in front of the net. Well into the second half, Burlinton responded with an equalizer with less than 5 minutes to go as Ryan Rapaso took a hard quick kick, sending the ball into the net. North London regained their lead less than 30 seconds later as Daniel Oshana tapped the ball into the net. North London maintained their edge, winning the match 2 – 1 over Burlington.

Ten seconds into the match, Kleinburg #4 Suleyman Zeren took a hard kick that would prove to be the only goal needed. Kleinburg held their early goal lead, winning the game 1 – 0 over Mount Hamilton. The last Ontario Indoor Cup Final of the day featured the Under 16 Boys division, with Kleinburg Nobleton 98 Red taking on North London 99. North London found the back of the net early as Engjell Qamili coolly curved a left-footed shot around Kleinburg goalkeeper from 10 yards out. The game started to get physical as Kleinburg looked to equalize, but the first half ended with North London up 1-0. The lead wouldn’t last long as Kleinburg’s Mario Bottoni finished a beautiful chance just two minutes into the second half. North London would come right back just three minutes later and regain the lead. As the second half wound down, with just twenty seconds left on the clock, Kleinburg’s Ryan Love equalized on a thrilling play from an indirect free kick to send the game to kicks from the penalty mark. After seven rounds of PKs, it would be North London who emerged victorious to take the Under 16 Boys Ontario Indoor Cup! The Ontario Indoor Cup will continue at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan on February 8-9, 2014 with the Under 13 and Under 18 divisions.
