Canadian coach John Herdman has his team back in Vancouver, preparing for a Women’s International Friendly at BC Place this coming 24 November against CONCACAF rival Mexico. The fixture represents somewhat of a rematch some 21 months after the two battled for a spot at the London 2012 Olympics.
Two players that missed the 2012 journey but are back in Canadian colours are strikers Josée Bélanger and Kara Lang, both back from injury for the first time this month in a centralised camp in Vancouver.
Bélanger and Lang were key players in the Canadian team that won the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, but then missed the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany just eight months later.
Just 24 years young when they pulled out, they are both now 27 with their minds set on a comeback as the Canadian program prepares to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™.

After 65 appearances for Canada, veteran fullback Melanie Booth called it a career and announced her retirement as an active soccer player from international and club duty.
"This was a very difficult decision to make, mostly because it meant leaving the people that I've been with for so long, day in and day out," said Booth. "It's not an easy thing to do, but it just felt like it was my time to move on."READ MORE on CANADASOCCER.com

PNG building future stars today
Papua New Guinea have long been queens of their region, winning all three editions of the Pacific Games held to date. Indeed women’s football has a surprisingly strong history in the Melanesian nation, which is located across the Torres Strait from the northern tip of Australia.
PNG competed in qualifiers for the very first FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in 1991, and have since been a regular fixture in Oceania Football Confederation women’s tournaments. Though the most populated nation within OFC, PNG is also highly ruralised, and its mountainous terrain provides its own difficulties, not least of all in terms of co-ordinating a structured and cohesive football program.
A narrow 2-0 defeat against New Zealand in Oceania qualifying for the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup became a seven-goal margin four years later. It was time to start bridging the gap, and PNG football officials are intent on creating solid foundations for future growth.READ MORE at FIFA.com
