Japan edge Australia to win Women's Asian Cup
World champions Japan edged Australia 1-0 to win their first AFC Women's Asian Cup title in a hard-fought final in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday. Azusa Iwashimizu got the game's only goal from a corner in the first half and despite waves of attack from the defending champions, Japan's Nadeshiko held firm.
The win swelled Japan's already impressive list of honours which includes the FIFA Women's World Cup Germany 2011™ and silver at the 2012 London Olympic Football Tournament. Defender Iwashimizu was also the heroine in the semi-finals, when she scored at the end of extra time to settle a thriller against eight-time winners China.

Magull: Excitement has been building all year
Lina Magull will not be short on confidence when she packs her bags in August ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. And given the 19-year-old Germany U-20 international recently helped VfL Wolfsburg win the UEFA Champions League at club level, it is hardly surprising.
A partial tear of an ankle ligament prevented the midfielder from taking part in the thrilling final against Swedish outfit Tyreso, but Magull looks set to win her fitness battle in time for this summer’s tournament in Canada.
