The carnival of world football is about to kick-off in Brazil as the World Cup comes to South America for the first time since 1978.
The hosts, and the bordering rivals Argentina, are the clear favourites to make the competition a continental home victory.

It is clear to see which four nations the bookies think have a real chance of winning the 2014 World Cup: Brazil, Argentina, Germany and holders Spain.
And Selecao coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was bullish in his words recently, per ITV.com, saying his side will definitely be crowned as world champions, justifying their rank as tournament favourites.
He said:
There is no pressure on Brazil. Brazil are not under pressure to be the world champions. Brazil will be the champions. I wouldn't have accepted the Brazil job if I didn't think we could win the World Cup. I wouldn't be leading the team I'd be sitting at home. I took this job because I'm 100 per cent convinced that I will win the World Cup with Brazil.

There is a huge drop in the odds once you look past the four betting powerhouses, with Belgium the surprise at 22/1 as fifth favourite.
Led by Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, Belgium are packed with a host of new stars of European football. With the likes of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Adnan Januzaj in their ranks, the Belgians might be the best chance of an outside bet to win the competition.
Colombia and Chile represent a great opportunity for punters at 40/1 and 50/1 respectively.
Both nations cannot be discounted on South American soil and will have no problems playing their best football in the Brazilian heat.
This is something the European sides will not be able to boast.

The competition kicks off on June 12 as Brazil face a dangerous Croatian side.
It is a tricky first test for Neymar and company and despite being overwhelming favourites for the match, a surprise could happen.
Scolari's boys are as short as 1/3 to win the game, per Oddschecker, but those numbers are drifting slightly.
You can get Croatia to win the game at as long as 11/1 and for a one-off football match those are very tempting odds.
However, the draw is 4/1 and this perhaps represents the best value for a less risky bet for fans.

As you would expect, Neymar is plugged in as first goalscorer for the match at 3/1 with Fred at 4/1.
You can also pick up numbers of 14/1 on no goals being scored which seems appealing as a double with the odds for a draw.

However, Brazil will be switched on for this encounter and should see their European opposition off in some style. An early goal could open the flood gates and see the golden shirts of the hosts pull off an emphatic victory.
Brazil do have the class to go on and win this tournament but the threat of Argentina is clear and present. Lionel Messi is ready to perform on the biggest stage of all and what could be more of a motivation than to win a World Cup on Argentina's most bitter rival's home soil.
