Abby Wambach's last-gasp header in the quarter-finals of Germany 2011 against Brazil has been voted by FIFA.com users as the greatest goal in the history of the FIFA Women's World Cup™.
Trailing 2-1 in extra time against A Seleção, Wambach's goal deep into stoppage time sealed the Stars and Stripes' fightback to force penalties, which the Americans ultimately won 5-3 to set-up a showdown with France in the semi-finals. Megan Rapinoe's pinpoint cross from the left side found Wambach's head past the outstretched arms of Brazil goalkeeper Andreia and centre-back Daiane's clearance attempt, and the USA No20 finished confidently to send the fans in Dresden into delirium.
