A joint delegation from FIFA and the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ Russia Local Organising Committee (LOC) is preparing to make its second operational planning tour of the stadiums.
During the tour, which will run 1-11 September, the delegation will visit the stadiums in the four FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 host cities – Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi and Moscow. The delegation will also find out more about the design and future operation of the remaining arenas (Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Saransk and Volgograd) to be used in the 2018 FIFA World Cup by virtual visits presented by the local operational teams of the respective stadiums at meetings in Moscow.
The delegation is formed by operational experts and will be led by the LOC CEO, Alexey Sorokin, and by FIFA’s Head of World Cup Office, Chris Unger. It is important to note that the main objective of the visit is not to assess the construction status of the arenas, but rather discuss how the stadiums will operate during the events.
Participants are experts in stadium design, event preparation and management, security, transport, logistics, hospitality services, television broadcasting, media operations, healthcare services, personnel, marketing, ticketing and sustainability. It will also include representatives from the relevant ministries and other government agencies.
During the planning tour, there will be a short media opportunity with Alexey Sorokin and Chris Unger at each stadium. A media briefing summing up the results of the tour will take place in Moscow (more details will follow in due course).
Agenda for Media Opportunities at the stadiums:
2 September: Saint Petersburg – 13:00
3 September: Kazan – 12:15
4 September: Sochi – 12:30

Yuri Konoplev Academy keeps Governor Cup in Samara region
20 August 2015 11:37 CET
12 teams from European part of Russia leaded by the boys from the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ host cities (Samara, Sochi, Saransk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Moscow and Volgograd regions) fought for 7 days for the right to lift the 2015 Samara Region Governor Cup.
The best team of the tournament is the Yuri Konoplev Football Academy, same as a year before. The second are boys from local Krylia Sovetov PFC. Young players of Khimky FC (Moscow Region) finished the competition in third place.
“It was a good tournament for us”, – Academy’s captain Vladislav Nikonov hugs the trophy. “The games were tight, we had to fight and I felt happy when we won our derby over Krylia, we defended our title as the Cup winners which my school had got a year ago! I will be only 17 in 2018, despite I am going to work hard, and it is difficult to imagine that I can get a chance to play for Russia national team at the World Cup. On the other hand, my heart stops every time I think the 2018 FIFA brings the best of World football in Samara too. Probably I will be lucky enough to watch Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo themselves. Together with my friends, we look forward in 2018!”
