Team Canada U-20 trains in Toronto on road to Korea Republic 2017

 28 August 2015 in Men's U-20
Building on a good start to the U-20 cycle, a group of young players hoping to take part in the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 has gathered for its latest camp under coach Rob Gale.
Gale guided this group of 1997-born players through a tournament in Slovakia in April, but now has assembled the team in Toronto for an eight-day training camp.
“This is the first domestic camp I have had which is going to be great,” said Gale, noting that the camp fits well with the FIFA World Cup Qualifier also in Toronto next week.
“The camp will be a first opportunity for me to look at some of the players from the last U-17 cycle and build them into the group that has done well on our last two European tours.”
Training starts on Monday 31 August and will mostly take place at the Kia Training Ground, the training venue of Toronto FC. It wraps up with a final day of training on Saturday 5 September.
The camp comes at the tail end of the U-20 identification camp involving League1 Ontario players and a handful of players from that camp will be asked to participate in the Canadian team portion of the camp.
“I thoroughly believe that continuing to build partnerships and alliances is very important to secure a better future for the game in Canada,” said Tony Fonseca, Canada Soccer Technical Director, of the process that sees some League1 players included in this camp.
On 4 September, the U-20 players will watch Canada face Belize at BMO Field in a FIFA World Cup Qualifiers home-and-away elimination series. All Canadian fans are encouraged to support the team on the road to Russia 2018, with tickets to this match available via Ticketmaster.ca starting at just $20. The match, presented by BMO, will also be broadcast across the country on canadasoccer.com.
