U.S. WNT Blanks Costa Rica 5-0 for First WOQ Win

The U.S. WNT kicked off the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship in spectacular fashion on Wednesday night with a 5-0 victory against Costa Rica. The USA effort was led by Alex Morgan, who recorded a brace, her first goal coming 12 seconds into the match, and by tallies from Carli Lloyd, Crystal Dunn and Christen Press.
The USA now has 3 points in Group A and is tied atop the group with Mexico, who earlier in the day defeated Puerto Rico 6-0. Mexico however, holds a slight goal differential advantage. The two group leaders meet next on Feb. 13 at 3pm CT at Toyota Stadium, with the winner possibly clinching a spot in the semifinals if Costa Rica wins or draws against Puerto Rico in the other match of the day.

Canada's women's soccer team is looking to clinch a trip to Rio at the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship in Houston.

Each of Canada's group-stage matches at the Feb. 11-21 tournament will be streamed live on CBCSports.ca and the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android.
Following the opener against Guyana, Canada faces Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET before completing the group stage on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 8:30 p.m. ET against Guatemala.
Canada can progress to the knockout round by placing first or second in Group B and would then compete on Feb. 19 in the semifinals. A victory there would ensure Canada a spot in Rio later this summer, and also a berth in the final in Houston on Feb. 21.

Canada has twice qualified for the Olympics through the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship, each timing defeating Mexico in the semifinals to earn an Olympic berth before being defeated by the United States in the final match. Canada went on to place eighth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and won bronze at the London 2012 Games.
