Over the years, dozens of beauty queens from Miss USA to Miss America to Miss Universe have had to turn in their crown and sash for a multitude of reasons, including nude photos, underage drinking, drug use, physical assault, and in one case, even kidnap and torture. Here are some of the biggest scandals so far!

The latest scandal to rock the pageant world came courtesy of Miss Delaware Teen USA, who turned in her crown on February 26 after a graphic sex tape reportedly starring her and an unidentified man surfaced on a porn website. Although the 18-year-old insists the woman in the June 2012 video is “absolutely not” her (despite the fact that she talks about competing in pageants in it), King did relinquish her title nonetheless. Although Hilton used his site to trash Prejean, the worst was yet to come. In May, topless modeling photos surfaced online, which she explained away, saying, "I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos." Prejean also claimed they were the only photos … but then more scantily clad shots hit the web. On June 10, she was terminated as Miss California USA, citing breach of contract.

After winning both Miss Oregon Teen and Miss United States Teen, Peniche moved on to much more adult ventures when she posed nude for Playboy in 2004, causing Miss United States Teen to strip her of her title. At the time, she claimed she had no idea that her contract prohibited her from nude modeling. But that was only the beginning. In 2006, she became engaged to pop singer Aaron Carter, the younger brother of her ex-boyfriend Nick Carter, after “dating” for only five days (the two never married, luckily). Three years later, she appeared on both “Sex Rehab” and “Celebrity Rehab” with Dr. Drew Pinsky, which showcased not only her addictions, but a nasty, verbally-abusive attitude, too. Shortly after, a home video of Peniche cavorting around naked with married couple Eric Dane (from “Grey’s Anatomy”) and Rebecca Gayheart was posted online after it was found on a hard drive Peniche and “Celeb Rehab” co-star Mindy McCready allegedly fought over when the now-deceased country singer moved into Peniche’s home following filming. In 2011, the former beauty queen got married and had a son … but her husband left her four months later.

Things got even worse the following year when Fakih was arrested for drunk driving in Highland Park, Michigan, which earned her six months of probation and 20 hours of community service.

Just one problem: Evans left her purse at the table … and it had marijuana inside of it. The blonde was later charged with one count of possession and theft and was relieved of her Miss Louisiana Teen duties. But don’t worry, things looked up for Evans in 2009 when she was Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for October. She then went on to date electronic music producer DeadMau5, who is now engaged to Kat Von D.

After not even placing in the Miss USA 2012 competition, Monnin charged that the Top 5 was “fixed” by claiming Miss Florida USA, Karina Brez, had seen the same names as the eventual Top 5 on a piece of paper backstage. Although Brez later said she had only been joking, Monnin still resigned as Miss Pennsylvania USA, but instead blamed it on the organization allowing “natural born males,” like Talackova to compete. “This goes against every moral fiber of my being,” she stated at the time. But Trump was still ticked nonetheless and the Miss Universe organization filed a $5 million lawsuit against Monnin for defamation. Although an arbitrator ruled in December 2012 that she must pay up, as of February 2013, she was granted an extension after receiving new legal counsel

Donald Trump found himself in a whole different kind of sex scandal in 2012 when Miss Universe Canada authorities disqualified the transgendered Talackova on the grounds that pageant rules require participants to be “naturally born” women. After hiring powerhouse attorney Gloria Allred, Talackova was then allowed to compete in Miss Universe Canada as “long as she meets the standards of legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, which we understand that she does,” Trump’s office said in a statement. Talackova, whose birth name was Walter, went on to place in the Top 12, but failed to reach the Top 5.

All the scandals involving sex and raunchy photos seem petty when compared to what a beauty queen who competed for Miss Arizona in both 2005 and 2006 did. The former law school student was sentenced to two years in jail in 2010.

Though previously denying any such video existed, Melissa King, 18, officially gave up her crown today.
A spokesperson for the Miss Teen USA pageant released a statement saying: 'I would like to confirm the Miss Delaware Teen USA pageant has received a resignation letter from Miss King’s attorney.'
The video is believed to have been shot some time in June 2012. At the beginning of the video, a girl in a purple patterned dress who looks very like Melissa sits on a bed and answers questions from the man behind the camera.
