Oh, what a game changer that was! The Dutch get a penalty after a hand ball in the box, and Lieke Martens’ finish is clinical! Will it be another late goal that seals the deal for the Oranjeleeuwinnen?

Lieke MARTENS (Netherlands) successfully converts the penalty!
After the referee adjudges Suki Kumagai to have handled the ball in the penalty area, the Barcelona star steps up and coolly sends Ayaka Yamashita the wrong way. She hits it low and hard to the goalkeeper's left. Surely there's no way back for Japan now?

Seven of the 11 players on the pitch are in the Women's World Cup for the first time. They're fearless. I'm enjoying the game without being timid.

As we head into the final ten minutes of the game, the Nadeshiko appear to be getting stronger and stronger by the minute. The Dutch have let their passing get sloppier in the second half, and if they continue to play like this, they will need to depend on some individual show of skill to score that all-important winning goal before the end of the 90 minutes.

Sari VAN VEENENDAAL (Netherlands) pulls off a save.
Big chance, great save! Momiki has had an immediate impact after her introduction. The diminutive midfielder shows ice-cool composure to dummy inside the Dutch penalty area and rifle a left-footed effort at goal. The Dutch No1 is equal to the effort and parries it away.
79' 25 Jun 2019
Hina SUGITA (Japan) attempts an effort on goal.
OFF THE CROSSBAR! The No6 plays a magnificent give-and-go in midfield and finds herself free down the Japan right. Her laconic style seems to have slowed the momentum of the play down, but she unleashes a left-footed effort at goal which thunders off the crossbar. Japan are turning the screw in Rennes.

Mana IWABUCHI (Japan) attempts an effort on goal.
Just wide, again! The diminutive No8 dribbles brilliantly past the Dutch defence and finds space to pull the trigger. Her effort ripples the side-netting though. This has been an extremely entertaining second half!

Momiki makes her first Women's World Cup appearance. Nakajima receives a big round fo applause as she is replaced. Momiki is a very clever player, who can definitely make a difference in the final third.

Yui HASEGAWA (Japan) attempts an effort on goal.
Just wide! The same combination that scored Japan's opener almost come together to produce a second. Mana Iwabuchi's wonderful back-heeled pass finds the No14 in space. Once more she opens her body to shoot, it goes through the legs of Stefanie van der Gragt ... but flashes past the post and wide.

A good start to the second half throughout the team, both defensively and offensively. They are taking advantage in an attacking sense by aiming to get as close to goal as possible via a breakthrough down the middle. But it's definitely a tough game. There might be a change in attack sooner rather than later.

Around ten minutes into the second half, the Japanese are slowly beginning to gain more control over the game. As a response, Dutch head coach Sarina Wiegman sends numerous Oranjeleeuwinnen out for warm-ups, amongst them Jill Roord, Lineth Beerensteyn, Anouk Dekker, Kika van Es, and back-up goalkeeper Loes Geurts.

And we’re back in action! No changes in the 22 players on the pitch, but the scenery is definitely changing: a beautiful Rennes sunset can be seen through the windows of Roazhon Park. A great scene for another 45 minutes of great football!

Sherida SPITSE (Netherlands) attempts an effort on goal.
Solid save! Ayaka Yamashita gets down low to her right to keep a dipping free kick from the Dutch No8 out. The second half has started much in the same vein as the first finished: an open, attacking and intriguing match!

A different perspective on that Hasegawa finish. Remarkably, it's the first goal scored in that net at France 2019 - in the sixth game in the stadium!
