LAST CAMP US Women SOCCER NATIONAL TEAM bring in 31 players to close out the year

November 25, 2013

CHICAGO – U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Tom Sermanni has called up 31 players for a training camp running from Dec. 3-15 at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center in Carson, Calif.

The two-week camp will be the longest training period Sermanni has had with the squad since taking over the team last January.

U.S. goalkeeper coach Paul Rogers has selected seven goalkeepers for a pre-camp training period that will run from Dec. 1-4, after which he will keep only three or four ‘keepers when the field players arrive for the remainder of the camp. Rogers has also brought in former U.S. WNT goalkeeper coach Phil Wheddon to assist with the ‘keepers during the pre-camp training.

Aside from a few players still recovering from injuries and Megan Rapinoe not being released by her French club Lyon, all the U.S. regulars will be in the camp, and they will be joined by two 2012 Olympic gold medalists that haven’t yet been a part of the team this year. New mom Amy Rodriguez, who had a son in early August, makes her return to WNT training, as does defender Amy LePeilbet, who is in the final stages of her recovery from ACL surgery. LePeilbet will be in the camp just for the first week as her progress will be evaluated by the U.S. medical and coaching staff.

Two of the USA’s three college players called up – defender Crystal Dunn from North Carolina and midfielder Morgan Brian from Virginia – are still embroiled in the NCAA Tournament and will come into camp as their college soccer and academic schedules allow. Julie Johnston, who recently completed her highly successful collegiate career at Santa Clara, was also named to the roster and will join the camp on Dec. 4.

The three players coming from Bayern Munich in Germany – midfielders Amber Brooks and Erika Tymrak and uncapped forward Sarah Hagen – will not arrive into camp until Dec. 9. Bayern Munich is currently in third place in the German Women’s Bundesliga.
