Wednesday 4 December 2013FIFPro, the worldwide players’ union, and FIFA today announced the 20 defenders shortlisted for the FIFA FIFPro World XI 2013 (see list below) as part of the final 55-player shortlist to be revealed on 9 December 2013.
Two days after the unveiling of the five goalkeepers who made the shortlist, the 20 defenders are now known and will be followed by the 15 midfielders and 15 forwards due to be announced and published on FIFA.com on 6 and 9 December respectively.
The defender shortlist is (home country, club):
David Alaba (Austria, FC Bayern München); Jordi Alba (Spain, FC Barcelona); Dani Alves (Brazil, FC Barcelona); Leighton Baines (England, Everton FC); Jérôme Boateng (Germany, FC Bayern München); Ashley Cole (England, Chelsea FC); Dante (Brazil, FC Bayern München); Mats Hummels (Germany, Borussia Dortmund); Branislav Ivanović (Serbia, Chelsea FC); Philipp Lahm (Germany, FC Bayern München); David Luiz (Brazil, Chelsea FC); Vincent Kompany (Belgium, Manchester City FC); Marcelo (Brazil, Real Madrid CF); Pepe (Portugal, Real Madrid CF); Gerard Piqué (Spain, FC Barcelona); Sergio Ramos (Spain, Real Madrid CF ); Thiago Silva (Brazil, Paris St-Germain FC); Raphaël Varane (France, Real Madrid CF); Nemanja Vidić (Serbia, Manchester United FC); Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina, Manchester City FC).

The 50,000 professional footballers belonging to the players’ unions across the world that form FIFPro received voting forms to nominate their peers in a secret ballot for inclusion in their World XI – choosing the best goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards of 2013.
The nominees for the following awards will be announced live on FIFA.com, francefootball.fr and YouTube at 2pm (CET) on 9 December: FIFA Ballon d’Or, FIFA’s Women’s World Player of the Year, FIFA World Coaches of the Year for Men’s and Women’s Football, FIFA FIFPro World XI, and the FIFA Puskás award.
Be online when the nominees are unveiled – you will be able to comment on all the action and lists! The best tweets and Facebook posts will be featured, background information on the FIFA Ballon d’Or will be provided live and surprise videos will be disclosed on our Live Blog. Stay tuned!
The final FIFA FIFPro World XI will then be announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or award ceremony at the Kongresshaus in Zurich on 13 January 2014. During the televised ceremony, the winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the best player of 2013 and the winner of the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year 2013 award will also be revealed while the FIFA World Coach of the Year awards for men’s and women’s football will be presented for the fourth time. The FIFA Puskás Award for the best goal of the year, the FIFA Presidential Award and the FIFA Fair Play Award will also be presented during the award ceremony.

FIFPro, the worldwide players’ union, and FIFA today announced the five goalkeepers shortlisted for the FIFA/FIFPro World XI 2013 (see list below) as part of the final 55-player shortlist to be revealed on 9 December 2013.
This year, all of the shortlists for the individual positions, including today’s goalkeeper shortlist, will be released in the week leading up to the announcement of the final, complete shortlist. The shortlists for the defenders, midfielders and forwards will be announced and published on FIFA.com on 4, 6 and 9 December respectively.
The goalkeeper shortlist is: (home country, club)
Gianluigi Buffon (Italy, Juventus); Iker Casillas (Spain, Real Madrid CF); Petr Cech (Czech Republic, Chelsea FC); Manuel Neuer (Germany, FC Bayern München), Víctor Valdes (Spain, FC Barcelona).

FIFA Puskás Award: Ten best goals of the year announced

The race to determine the winner of the FIFA Puskás Award for the “best goal of the year” has started today, 11 November 2013, on FIFA.com and francefootball.fr. Fans from across the world will decide which of the ten goals selected by FIFA and selected Football Committee members will be the winner of this award.
The ten goals are (in alphabetical order of the scorer’s names):
  • Peter Ankersen – 10 August 2013 - Esbjerg fB v. Aarhus GF - SAS Ligaen (Denmark)
  • Lisa De Vanna – 01 June 2013 - Sky Blue FC v. Boston Breakers – NWSL

  • Zlatan Ibrahimović – 13 November 2012 – Sweden v. England – International Friendly

Users of FIFA.com and francefootball.fr will be able to choose from ten goals until 9 December when the three goals with the most votes will be disclosed. Immediately after the announcement on 9 December, FIFA.com and francefootball.fr users will be able to vote again for their favourite from the three remaining goals. The winner will be revealed on the day of the FIFA Ballon d’Or on 13 January 2014. Voting will close during the show.
The FIFA Puskás Award, created in honour and in memory of Ferenc Puskás, the captain and star of the Hungarian national team during the 1950s, will be presented for the fifth year in a row at the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013, which will be held at the Kongresshaus in Zurich.
During a televised show, the winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the best player of 2013 as well as the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year 2013 will also be revealed. Meanwhile, the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men’s Football award and the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women’s Football award will be presented for the fourth time. The FIFA FIFPro World XI, the FIFA Presidential Award and the FIFA Fair Play Award will also be presented during the show.
