The OSA aims to increase the number of active elite female coaches on an annual basis, and to create an improved female coaching culture in Ontario. The OSA is currently seeking applications for eight mentee coaches. Coaches must be working towards their Provincial B and National B coaching licenses, and they will be selected based on their experience, potential, and the recommendations supporting their application.
The Ontario Soccer Association is committed to supporting and developing female coaches in Ontario. The first two years of the Female Mentorship Program were a resounding success and the OSA is keeping the momentum going in year three. The Female Mentorship Program is designed to train senior female coaches, who in turn will act as educators and mentors to other female coaches who wish to further develop and progress their coaching careers. The mentorship program is part of a holistic support system approach to enabling promising coaches across the province to reach their full coaching potential in the sport. The OSA is aiming to increase the number of active elite female coaches and to create an improved female coaching culture. Annually the OSA seeks applications for eight Mentee Coaches. The mentee coaches must be working toward the Provincial B and National B coaching licenses. The eight coaches will be selected based on their experience, potential, and the recommendations supporting their application. The selected applicants will be developed in the OSA mentoring program under the guidance of the Female Head Mentor coach. Successful candidates will be required to commit to a 9-month program on a volunteer basis. These coaches will eventually be able to step into a coaching leadership role as they attain their Provincial B or National B license. Mentee Coach commitments include: Session and Game Observation (pre and post discussions with Head Mentor Coach)
The proposed dates for the Female Coaching Workshops are as follows:

SCOREBOARD
First-year midfielder Natasha Klasios scored in the 84th minute to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Wednesday evening (Oct. 21) at Varsity Centre. With the win, the Blues improve to 8-6-1 and move into fourth place in the OUA East division with just one regular season game remaining.
After a scoreless first half, the Blues began to pressure and had a great chance to get on the board in the 50th minute, but Alexandra Rocha's shot sailed wide of the net.
The Ridgebacks answered right back though as Shanice Wiliams sent a nice cross to Sarah Harvey, but her shot went just wide. Williams had another chance to open the scoring in the 77th minute, but she fired the ball too far left.
The Ridgebacks continued to pressure but some great defensive effort from veteran Christine Mulligan and excellent work from veteran goalkeeper Sara Petrucci kept them off the score sheet.
Then, in the 84th minute, Klasios received a nice pass from Brenda Murillo and fired the ball into the net.
Petrucci notched her fourth clean sheet of the season, posting one save in the victory.
The Blues wrap up the regular season when they travel to take on the Ryerson Rams this Saturday, October 24.

Ghoneim, D'Agostini named OUA Athletes of the Week
BURLINGTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for the period ending October 19th, 2015.
The York Lions extended their season long unbeaten streak to 14 games this past weekend with a pair of victories, thanks to striker Nour Ghoneim (Aurora, Ont.).
Ghoneim, a fourth-year psychology student-athlete, scored both game winners to help lead the No. 2 Lions to a pair of narrow victories over the rival No. 6 nationally ranked Western Mustangs and the Waterloo Warriors this past weekend.
On Friday night against the Warriors, the 5’8” striker’s goal in the 59th minute gave the Lions a 2-0 lead. The goal would stand as the eventual game winner, as York slipped past Waterloo 2-1.
Ghoneim followed that up on Sunday, tallying the game’s only goal on a header in the 57th minute for a 1-0 win. The victory clinched first place in the OUA West for the Lions with still two games remaining in the regular season.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they host the Algoma Thunderbirds at York Stadium in a weekend double header to close out the regular season.

FIFA WORLD CUP U-17 CHILE 2015
Last 16 determined on day of drama

THE DAY REPLAYED – The group stage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 drew to a close on Sunday, with the final matches in Groups E and F determining the line-up of the Round of 16. New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Costa Rica and Korea DPR all qualified for the knockout stages, on a day full of drama and turnarounds.
France consolidated their position at the top of Group F by making light work of Syria, scoring twice in each half and eliminating the Asian side.
In the other match in that section, New Zealand snatched second place from Paraguay in stirring fashion, grabbing a well-worked goal in stoppage time for a hard-fought 2-1 victory. The South Americans finished third, and were forced to wait for the results in the later matches to see if they had done enough to advance.
Unfortunately for them, Korea DPR took a leaf out of the Kiwis’ book, notching a winner in injury time to beat Costa Rica 2-1, a result that not only qualified both teams but that sent the Paraguayans home. Elsewhere in Group D, Russia put paid to South Africa’s hopes with an early penalty and a stunning last-minute free-kick.
Finally, the New Zealand result had the additional knock-on effect of eliminating England (Group B) and, combined with Syria's defeat, helped send Australia (Group C) through to the last 16.
ResultsParaguay 1-2 New Zealand (Group F)
France 4-0 Syria (Group F)
Costa Rica 1-2 Korea DPR (Group E)
Russia 2-0 South Africa (Group E)
Goal of the day
Paraguay 1-2 New Zealand, Lucas Imrie (90+1)
As this match entered into time added-on in Puerto Montt, ten-man Paraguay just needed the result to hold in order to book a place in the next round. New Zealand forward Lucas Imrie had other ideas, however, latching on to a superb chipped pass from Sarpreet Singh to bring to an end eight matches without a win at this level and qualify the OFC representatives for the knockout phase for the third time in their history.
Memorable momentsJanvier juggernaut: Handed a starting berth for the first time, France midfielder Nicolas Janvier did not exactly let the occasion get to him against Syria. In fact, he was the star of the show, getting on the scoresheet twice and turning provider for the two other goals. Asked about the player at the post-match press conference by FIFA.com, France coach Jean-Claude Guintini refused to get too carried away, stating, “He had a good match. In the games to come, he’ll be an option we can use, just like any other player.”
Antipodean allies: The England squad, watching from their hotel in Coquimbo, were hoping for various results in Groups E and F to go their way so that they could remain in Chile for a few days more. However, New Zealand’s last-gasp triumph over Paraguay shattered those dreams. At the same time, Australia’s players, keeping an eye on the scores from their hotel in Chillan, exploded with joy at the knowledge that the Young All Whites had played their part.
Cutting inside: After having celebrated their pivotal victory in Puerto Montt, the young New Zealanders returned to their dressing room and demanded the presence of one of the members of their backroom staff, who promptly entered to uproarious laughter, sitting down and holding up a pair of scissors to the group with a happy yet resigned look on his face. The players then proceeded to cut their older compatriot’s flowing locks, which had been allowed to grow for 15 years but which had also been used as collateral in a bet involving the Kiwis’ potential qualification for the Round of 16.
The stat
14 – The number of goals scored by France in the group phase, a total that represents a new record for a European team at the U-17 World Cup, beating the previous benchmark of 11 set by Germany in 2007 and 2011. The all-comers record remains the property of Brazil, who scored 15 times in three matches in 2013.
The words“I’d like to thank the Chilean people and the residents of Puerto Montt and Concepcion for their support. During our stay, we were made to feel like friends rather than strangers,” Mohamed Alattar, Syria coach.

WTA TENNIS 2015: Garbiñe Muguruza Rises To World No.3
Garbiñe Muguruza Rises To World No.3
Published October 26, 2015 12:13
SINGAPORE - After a season that has seen her reach her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, win the biggest title of her career in Beijing and qualify for her first WTA Finals, Garbiñe Muguruza has hit a brand new career-high on the WTA Rankings this week, passing Maria Sharapova for World No.3.
"Well, it for sure has been an incredible rise," Muguruza said during her All Access Hour interviews in Singapore. "I think you always have to have it in your mind that you can make good tournaments and achieve great things, otherwise it's not going to happen. You always have to have it in your mind what you want to do, and always have important objectives, so that you can be motivated to achieve them.
"I think I earned my place here in Singapore. I kind of deserve to be playing here. I don't see myself as a favorite, but I've played very well this month, and hopefully I can continue to play well here."
The 1993-born Spaniard is the first player born after 1991 to make Top 3 - how high can she go?
"Well, I'm getting closer and closer," Muguruza said. "I think I have the possibility to be there if I work hard. I still have to do a lot of things, work, improve - but I think I'm in the right way to make it."
Though she can obviously keep climbing, for now Muguruza is No.3, and she joins an impressive list of 10 other WTA players who have had a career-high No.3. Here are those 10 other World No.3s:
