EVENT DETAILS: Businesses as well as federal and provincial government agencies are adopting Plain Language as the standard for communicating with the public, following the introduction of the Plain Language Act south of the border, but exactly what is Plain Language?
It consists of messages an audience can easily read, understand and use on the first attempt. A Plain Language writer keeps the reader's concerns at the forefront and sticks to everyday words, active voice verbs, paragraph topic sentences and a number of other principles for delivering a simpler, clearer message.
1. Understand what Plain Language is and why it is being introduced in organizations across Canada.
2. Learn some of the fundamentals of Plain Language and gain some experience applying them to your own writing.
3. Witness the impact Plain Language has on the reader's speed and ability to absorb a message.
