Five Ontario Soccer players ink deal with Ottawa Fury FC Women



Five Canadian internationals, all of whom came up through the Ontario system, signed deals with the Ottawa Fury FC Women this week. 
The Ottawa Fury FC Women's squad announced its first five signings as Head Coach Dom Oliveri added five internationally-capped Ontario players to his roster for the upcoming W-League campaign.
Returning to the club from last season is defender Shelina Zadorsky who will be joined by fellow Canadians Christabel Oduro, Bryanna McCarthy, Ashley Lawrence and Kadeisha Buchanan who recently starred in Canada's 1-1 draw with the United States on May 8.

Soccer movies star at Canadian Sport Film Festival 
 
A pair of soccer films will be showing at the Canadian Sport Film Festival this year.
Next Goal Wins and Black Diamonds will debut in Canada on Saturday, May 17. Next Goal Wins is the feature screening at 7 pm and Black Diamonds is at 9:30 pm. Both films are being shown at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in downtown Toronto.
Next Goal Wins features Thomas Rongen, former Toronto FC Academy Director, in a starring role.

What do you need to know about OPDL competition?
 
What is important to know with regards to OPDL and its competition?
The OPDL competition accounts for 20-25 percent of overall activity within the development program. The majority of time spent by players will be working week in and week out with their qualified coaching staff on the nationally-led coaching curriculum.

Have your players on the pitch at U-20 Women's World Cup 
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 Youth Programme is excited to offer soccer clubs the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be on the pitch as player escorts or flag bearers during match days this August.
Who can participate?
  • Soccer clubs will be selected in Edmonton, Alberta; Moncton, New Brunswick; Montréal, Québec and Toronto, Ontario. 
  • Captain and Player Escorts must be 6 to 10 years old. 
  • FIFA Flag Bearers must be 12 to 17 years old.

Keep your coaching license up to date
There have been several changes and additions to Ontario Coaching recently. As of January 2014, The Ontario Soccer Association, in conjunction with the CSA, has introduced a 5-year expiry date for both the Provincial B License and the Pre B Assessment course.

The Waterloo Pre-B has already sold-out and Welland currently only have six spots left. Additionally, the OSA Coaching Department has opened up a waiting list for September to gauge the interest in potentially hosting another B License in the Greater Toronto Area. Interested candidates should click here and choose the pay later option to be put on a waiting list.

Special Needs Soccer Festival enters its second year
This year will be the second time Fergus-Elora District Soccer have run their Special Needs Soccer Festival and after the overwhelming success from 2013 this year will be bigger and better. The town’s support for this event is overwhelming with over 120 athletes and it provides a little bit of everything - from soccer to live music and face painting.
The event takes place at the club’s soccer fields at Victoria Park in Fergus on July 5. FEDS will have three teams in the festival as well Kitchener and Halton Hills providing one team. The festival is aimed at adults with special needs.

Learn to 'officiate' at the Grassroots level
Another exciting, child-friendly Grassroots program is being delivered by the OSA. The Game Leader program is an introduction to 'officiating' in children's soccer games. 
The main role of a Game Leader is to keep the game moving while limiting stoppages and assisting players with all restarts, without blowing a whistle.

Referee Joe Fletcher interviewed on CBC's The National

As Canada’s lone representative at the Brazil World Cup this summer, this Ontario official was recently profiled on CBC’s flagship program The National.
Fletcher speaks to CBC about what it’s like to call a game on the big stage and what drove him to become the successful referee he is today

Bolton Wanderers win first Club Excellence award

Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club picked up their first Club Excellence Award this year after some great work from their board over the past 12 months. The club has a real appetite to improve the game, both on the field and off it, and following last year's hiring of Club Technical Director Matteo Masucci they then completed their Bronze level application.
Presenting the Bronze Excellence award to the Bolton Wanderers Board of Directors was Ron Smale, President of the Ontario Soccer Association with William Hay, President of the Peel Halton Soccer Association.
