CANADIAN SOCCER: 2013 SportChek National Club Championships Preview quest for gold begins tomorrow as the top club teams from across Canada will compete

VAUGHAN, October 8, 2013 – The quest for gold begins tomorrow as the top club teams from across Canada will compete at the 2013 Sport Chek National Club Championships from October 9-14 in four host cities. Each province/territory has the opportunity to send a provincial/territorial champion to the competition in hopes of emerging victorious.

Ontario’s representatives for the Sport Chek National Club Championships qualified for the competition by winning the Ontario Cup. Provincial Champions representing Ontario at Nationals are:

Division Ontario Representative
Under 14 Boys North London Elite
Under 14 Girls Kitchener Spirit
Under 16 Boys Vaughan Azzurri
Under 16 Girls Brams United Bandits
Under 18 Boys Mississauga Falcons
Under 18 Girls Burlington Bayhawks
Senior Men Gloucester Celtic
Senior Women Scarborough G.S. United

Under 18 representatives come from the Under 17 divisions of the Ontario Cup, as many of the players playing in the U18 divisions attend college or university.

Teams will compete in a Round Robin format in the early days of the competition, finishing with the Final games on Monday, October 14. The Men’s Semi-Finals on Sunday, October 13, and the Men’s and Women’s Finals on Monday, October 14, will be available live by webstream via the CSA website.

At the 2012 National Championships, Ontario won seven medals – four Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze. This year’s representatives will strive to match those impressive results as they go up against Canada’s best.

Every year, four provinces take on the responsibility of hosting a National Club Championships division. Ontario hosts every other year, having held the Under 14s at The Soccer Centre last October. The four hosts for the 2013 competition are listed below:
Division Host
Under 14 Lethbridge, Alberta
Under 16 Kamloops, British Columbia
Under 18 St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
Senior Open Halifax, Nova Scotia
