RED CARPET PREMIERE ON MARCH THE 6TH: Ctrl+Alt+Compete event update

Ctrl+Alt+Compete event update

First off, I want to thank all of you for supporting this event so far. Our goal is to share our passion with start-ups and the programs we offer to assist them. We’re also happy that the event is co-sponsored by PWC. At this point the registrations are a little lower than we expected so we need a little bit more help from all of you.
First I’d like to remind you that the event is more than the movie. We plan to make the Canadian announcement of BizSpark Plus, have a panel of experts and start-ups discussing the cloud and also Josh Sookman from Guard.ly for the movie intro. There will be press (local and national) as well and we allowed 1 hour for breakfast so people can mingle and chat.

The panel in Toronto will include:
-          Suresh Bhat – Extreme Venture Partner (@suresh_bhat)
-          Steve Currie – Venture Services Group/Communitech (@stevecurrie)
-          Jason Lavigne – Connect2Fans (@jason_lavigne)
-          Steven Bacso – DossierView (@srbacso)

The panel in Montreal will include:
-          Jean Sébastien Cournoyer – Real Ventures (@jscournoyer)
-          Chris Arsenault – iNovia Capital (@chrisarsenault)
-          Alain Paquin – WhatsNexx (@alainpaquin)
-          Patrick Pecorilli – Virtual Process

We will have prizes (Kobo eReader and Windows Phone 7) and are looking at doing passes for Startup Festival this summer.

Could you please amp the volume on this event by tweeting, facebooking, blogging, etc.? I’ve included bellow a blog post template.

Note : Please let us know if you have ideas to help drive attendance as well or have any questions. We look forward to seeing you there as well.

Thanks again.

BTW all the logos for the supporters are going to be on the walk of fame.

Red Carpet Event for the Canadian Premiere of Ctrl Alt Compete Screening

Join a networking crowd of investors, community start-ups and entrepreneurial students for the first Canadian screening of Ctrl Alt Compete – a Microsoft movie documentary on what it takes to be a start-up: Passion. Fortitude. Insanity.

There are lots of tech startups out there taking their shot at changing the world. There's no shortage of ideas. The infrastructure to build quickly is cheaper and more accessible than it's ever been…there's lots of capital floating around for the right idea. If only it were that simple! Building a startup from nothing to something is hard—REALLY hard. There is a "story behind the story" of just how hard it is to go from inception to reality and become the products and services that we use every day.

It's a story of the power of people pouring their passion, drive and dedication into building something that changes the world—no matter how hard.
We believe that is a story worth telling and sharing.

At this premier screening event, you'll hear insights from industry executives, Start-Ups from the cast and local leaders in the Start-Up community.

Canadian Music Week 2012: Focus on Spain and Portugal

The Spanish sound recording and music publishing industry has undergone a big change in recent years. Its digital music market is growing with retail revenues expected to reach $219 million in the next two years. Its live music market has grown surpassing revenue from recorded music sales in the UK. Its growing population combined with a widespread ability to promote and distribute music via the Internet, represent important opportunities for Canadian artists and industry. In Portugal, digital units continue to rise, fueled by the growing presence of broadband connections in the home. As Canadian Music Week brings Spain and Portugal into focus, these developing markets will soon be open for Canadians to be discovered.
In Portugal, digital units continue to rise, fueled by the growing presence of broadband connections in the home. The underground music scene is growing, with new labels and artist collectives establishing themselves as a possible future avenue for sales growth, and the country’s infra-structures for live music – several networks of recently-built small theatres with state of the art equipment – provides a key tool for the live sector to withstand the economic turmoil of the times. As Portugal begins to export more music, the world will slowly but surely become aware that Portugal is no longer all about Fado.
As Slacker Canadian Music Week brings Spain and Portugal into focus, these developing markets will soon be open for Canadians to be discovered.
