All matches to be broadcast live across Canada on Sportsnet and TVA Sports
Vancouver, February 9, 2012 – The official draw for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first-round tie between Canada and France took place Thursday at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club to determine the match-ups for the coming weekend. The tie will be contested on an indoor hard court at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver from February 10-12, 2012.
The Miele Canadian Davis Cup squad consisting of Frank Dancevic (Niagara Falls, Ontario), Daniel Nestor (Toronto), Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver) and Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ontario) will battle with France in two singles matches on Friday, a doubles match on Saturday and two reverse singles matches on Sunday. Miele Canadian Davis Cup team captain Martin Laurendeau will be at the helm this weekend.

“We’re pleased with the draw but really, no matter what the order, we’re just excited to get started and play some great tennis,” said Laurendeau. “The team has worked extremely hard this week and there has been great support from everyone here in Vancouver so we’re ready to go. We know the building will be loud and the fans will be behind us and our guys are going to go out there and do everything they can to win.”
A win over France will advance the Canadian squad to the World Group quarter-finals for the first time in its history. The losing nation must play a World Group play-off in September to retain their spot in the top category in 2013.
Play will begin at 2:00 PT on Friday, February 10 with two singles matches. The doubles match will take place Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. PT and the remaining two singles matches will be on Sunday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m. PT. Vancouver, le 9 février 2012 – Le tirage officiel de la rencontre du premier tour du Groupe mondial de la Coupe Davis par BNP Paribas opposant le Canada à la France a été effectué jeudi au Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club pour déterminer les affrontements de ce week-end. La rencontre sera disputée du 10 au 12 février, sur le terrain intérieur du Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre de l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique, à Vancouver.
L’équipe canadienne Miele de la Coupe Davis, composée de Frank Dancevic (Niagara Falls, Ontario), de Daniel Nestor (Toronto), de Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver) et de Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ontario) disputera deux matchs de simple vendredi, un match de double samedi et deux matchs de simple dimanche contre la Colombie. Martin Laurendeau, capitaine de l’équipe canadienne Miele de la Coupe Davis, sera à la barre ce week-end.

« Nous sommes heureux du résultat du tirage, mais peu importe l’ordre des matchs, nous avons très hâte de sauter sur le terrain et de disputer du grand tennis », commentait Laurendeau. « L’équipe a travaillé très fort cette semaine et tout le monde nous a offert beaucoup de soutien, nous sommes donc fin prêts. Nous savons que l’enceinte sera bruyante et que les amateurs seront derrière nous. Nos gars vont donner tout ce qu’ils ont dans le ventre pour gagner. »
Une victoire contre la France permettrait au Canada d’accéder aux quarts de finale du Groupe mondial pour la première fois de son histoire. Le pays perdant devra disputer une rencontre éliminatoire en septembre prochain pour conserver sa place au sein du Groupe mondial pour 2013.
Le coup d’envoi de la rencontre sera donné le vendredi 10 février, à compter de 14 h HNP, avec la présentation de deux matchs de simple. L’affrontement de double sera disputé à compter de 14 h HNP, le samedi 11 février, tandis que les deux derniers matchs de simple seront joués à compter de 14 h HNP, le dimanche 12 février. Tous les matchs seront diffusés en direct sur les ondes de Sportsnet Est, Ouest, Pacifique et Ontario, ainsi qu’à TVA Sports.
