New York, NY — August 2, 2011— NBC, Donald J. Trump and Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, announced today that Natalie Morales, news anchor and co-host on NBC’s “Today” and Andy Cohen, host of Bravo’s “Watch What Happens: Live” will host the 2011 MISS UNIVERSE® Pageant live from Credicard Hall in São Paulo, Brazil on September 12 (9 p.m. ET) on NBC. A live Spanish simulcast will air on Telemundo.

“We are happy to welcome Andy and Natalie to the Miss Universe stage where they are sure to turn up the heat in São Paulo,” said Shugart. “This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the MISS UNIVERSE® Pageant and what better place to showcase beautiful women from around the world than in Brazil, a country that is as charming and beautiful as its people.”

Natalie Morales was recently named news anchor for NBC’s “Today”. She also serves as co-host of Third Hour, a position she has held since 2006 when she joined the NBC news team as a national correspondent. Natalie previously hosted the 2010 MISS USA® Pageant and the 2010 MISS UNIVERSE® Pageant.

Andy Cohen is the host and executive producer of “Watch What Happens: Live," Bravo’s late night, interactive talk show that features guests from some of Bravo's most popular series, as well as from the world of entertainment, politics and pop culture. He is also the executive vice president of original programming and development for Bravo where he oversees the development and production of more than two dozen shows such as “Top Chef,” “The Real Housewives” franchises and “The Millionaire Matchmaker.”

The 2011 MISS UNIVERSE® Pageant kicks off a series of worldwide events hosted by Brazil. In addition to this global beauty event, Brazil is host to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. With the city of São Paulo at center stage, the pageant will take place at Credicard Hall, a prominent music theater for the city.

The two-hour television event, comprised of contestants representing approximately 90 countries around the world, will compete in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview. In past years, worldwide distribution of the competition has topped nearly 190 countries and territories.

Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete of Mexico will crown her successor at the conclusion of the telecast. During her reign, Navarrete traveled the world as an advocate for HIV/AIDS education, research and legislation. Named GQ Mexico’s “Woman of the Year”, she also continued her work as a model appearing in ads for L’Oreal Mexico and was featured on the cover of numerous international magazines like InStyle Mexico and Ocean Drive Puerto Rico.

New York, NY  - For the first time ever, the Miss Universe Organization will offer a fan vote and an on-screen interactive technology to increase fan engagement worldwide during the 2011 MISS UNIVERSE® Competition. The pageant will air LIVE from Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday, September 12th at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Launching today is a pre-pageant fan vote built by CommerceTel (OTCBB: MFON) that will grant one of the 89 contestants automatic advancement to the semifinals, which will be announced during the LIVE telecast. On the night of the show, the iPowow "In The Now" technology will enable the home audience to 'gamify' their viewing experience by voting in real-time for their favorite contestant during the live telecast.

Fans Vote Their Favorite Contestant Into the Semifinals

Leading up to the 2011 MISS UNIVERSE® Competition, fans in represented countries will be able to vote online for their favorite contestant to automatically reach the semifinals using CommerceTel's voting interface. Fans can vote online at www.missuniverse.com or www.NBC.com through Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 6 p.m. ET. Fans may rank the contestants a total of 10 times per day. The contestant with the highest average score will advance to the semifinals.

Fans Can Play Along As "Virtual Judges" During the Telecast

The collaboration with iPowow takes fan involvement to the next level by allowing viewers to play the role of 'virtual judge', while watching at home. The free web application will be available at www.scoremissuniverse.com or www.nbc.com/missuniverse as soon as the show starts on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Viewers can score each contestant on iPowow's 'Second Screen' voting system from their smartphone, tablet or PC. While the fans are ranking each contestant during the live pageant, they can also share their responses via Twitter and Facebook. Meanwhile, the "fan voting meter" on the home audience's television screen will instantly reveal which contestant is most favored by the fans. The show's celebrity judges will ultimately decide who will be crowned the next Miss Universe. The iPowow technology captivated audiences of the 2011 MISS USA® Pageant with more than 12.6 million total votes and an average of 30,000 votes per second.

[edit] Other pageant notes[edit] Replacements Curaçao - Evalina van Putten replaced Monifa Jansen since Monifa did not meet the age requirements stipulated by the Miss Universe Organization. Monifa was born in March, 1993.[34]

El Salvador - Mayra Aldana replaced Alejandra Ochoa after Alejandra suffered from chronic respiratory illness and wasn't able to compete.[139]

[edit] Designations Denmark - Sandra Amer was appointed as Miss Universe Denmark 2011 after a casting call took place.

Egypt - Sara El-Khouly was appointed as Miss Universe Egypt 2011 after no national pageant was held due to the political crisis.

Greece - Iliana Papageorgiou was appointed by the Star Hellas organization to represent Greece at Miss Universe 2011. The annual Star Hellas pageant takes place in September, conflicting with the international final.

Guatemala - Alejandra Barillas was appointed as Miss Universe Guatemala 2011 in a special ceremony. Barillas was the original representative to Miss Universe 2010 but due to an injury she couldn't attend. One of her runner-up's (Jessica Scheel) ended up taking her place.

Kazakhstan - Valeriya Aleinikova was appointed to represent Kazakhstan after the Miss Kazakhstan organization dropped the franchise and a new organization took over.

Montenegro - Nikolina Loncar was appointed to represent Montenegro after she couldn't compete in 2010 because she didn't meet the minimum age requirement.

Vietnam - Vũ Thị Hoàng My was appointed to represent Vietnam after the pageant organizers were unable to host a beauty pageant. The permission was granted by the Ministry of Culture of Vietnam, who authorizes the international representation of the nation events of any kind.
